Hello Flyer fans

Well I am new on this board and somehow I just posted in the trade rumors section ( I think everyone who comes over to the HFboards is fascinated from the option to be a fantasy gm ).
I'd like to join the Flyers site here from time to time. I am born and live in Germany, so unfortunately, I have no people within my radius to talk about the NHL and of course the Flyers. Nevertheless, I bleed orange and black . I'd be really happy to be a part of the forum, if it doesn't bother you.

Thank you!

The official language of austria is german. However, nobody in austria really speaks "high-german" (Hochdeutsch) which means to pronounce the words the way they are written.

German is a language with a ton of dialects. For example, it is quite hard to understand swiss people for people not used to it. Those dialects are usually dependent on what state you are in and each state makes fun of the other for how they speak. It's pretty much the same as for example a guy from the southern US and a guy from Brooklyn.

Austria also borders to a lot of other countries and at the borders there are also people who speak the language of the next country over. In fact there has been a ton of debate not too long ago whether city limit signs in southwest Carinthia (the state I live in, the most southern state in Austria) should be bilingual in German and Slovenian.

@ Kambo don't worry. But the word germans use for "boards" as in an online forum is simply "Forum". "Bretter" is the literally translation of boards and are the boards used for floors, fences etc. As for "boobies" you could say "Titten" which is rather vulgar equal to t*ts. The nicer word is Brüste (breasts). pronounce it with a U but bend the tongue towards the teeth instead of up. Hope you get it

...austrian german sucks
...swiss german sucks
...bavarian german sucks

I wish. Nothing worse than austrians (mostly students, for whatever reason) trying to speak High German.

"Möpse" is probably a more accurate translation. But who are we kidding, nobody says that.

Thx tgGags.

Nee überhaupt nicht, ehrlich gesagt die DEL interessiert mich nicht mal annähernd. Im Vergleich zur NHL ist es einfach nur langweilig.
No not at all, to be honest, I don't care what's going on in the DEL.
In comparison to the NHL, well it's plain and simple boring.

And this is why it sucks saying that I studied a language for 5 years, and stopped using it. But thanks for the pointers! And I do know how to pronouce an umlaut. One of the few people on here that can pronouce Nodl the right way.

I was taught nothing but High German all throughout high school. I had a professor in college that was actually from Berlin that tried to break away from it a bit, but I only had her for a year in college so I didn't get the full experience of it.

My dad ordered the rosetta stone language thing for me when I was back in college. Very useful, and I think if you have a microphone you can practice by pronouncing things and it grades you. I only used it like a handful of times though. That's about all I got for you.

I'm doing this with Spanish. We have a small migrant worker population that likes to drive, sometimes drunk. It's working so far....practicing "for real" a lot definitely helps.
