Steve Mason the real deal?

Wow, I did not watch this game tonight, San Jose at Columbus, but I see that the Jackets have emerged victorious, 2-1 in OT.

Mason stopped 48 shots, earning 1st star (apparently this is the only way to beat the Sharks). Mason is 8-5-1 in 14GP and has accrued 1.98GAA 0.923SV%. He is 3rd in the league in GAA

Is anyone else as excited about this kids future as I am?
This also begs the inevitable question:

Steve Mason VS Carey Price?

Price has the edge right now easily

Call me when he leads his team to the playoffs

A couple games doesn't cut it,yes he will be a great goaltender but he's not as good as Price yet.

You'll have a long wait. Get comfortable.

I agree that Price has more talent but Price also has the team.
If you put Mason in Price's position you'd probably say the same thing except in Mason's favor.

But in terms of skill I would like to see how Mason does over two seasons before we start comparing him. Why? I just want to see the consistency that he can succeed as one of the best young goalies in the league like Price has. As of now, he still needs to prove me some more but at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if he and Price will go head to head in the near future.

Price has a Steve Mason shrine in his bedroom closet.

I'd like to see Price lead Columbus into the playoffs.

I'd trade anyone outside of Berglund and EJ to Columbus for Mason...kid is gonna be a star in the NHL, and a terror in the Central division.

Exactly.

Because it was Price who "led" the Eastern Conference champs Montreal to the playoffs last year, right? And he was just stellar in the postseason.

Right now, I'd say Mason's made a bigger impact as a rookie than Price has, and it's even more remarkable given the teams they play for.

Mason has played the Sharks better than any other goalie has this year.

He was good,not great.

Did you expect a 19 year old to lead him team to the cup?

C'mon...

Yeah.. No kidding.

Mason was insane tonight.. One goal on 48 shots, and he had no chance on that goal..

Compared to Price.. I honestly dont know.. I think they are really close..

Steve Mason is the real deal. Although I don't watch many Blue Jackets game, I did see the one he played against the Habs. He looks like Price, with a faster glove. Scary. I won't trade Price for him, but if I had Mason, I wouldn't trade him for Price.

Yeah, he's really hot right now. But he's just played 15 games. Lets wait till the end of the season.

I've noticed that too.. Their playing style is very similar.. Both big, quick and calm.. A joy to watch

And to think... Mason would have even better stats if his defense didn't hang him out to dry sometimes. He's doing THAT WELL with not the best of personnel in front of him.

This guy is a stud, and I'm glad we have him. He's going to be a shining spot for us that gives us hope — and trust me, we need all the hope we can get!

No, I think it is Ellis that has played the best against the Sharks.

I was really impressed with his movement, although he had a little trouble going from side to side, and his d-men bailed him out twice, when Kaspar and Shelly had open nets. On the whole however, he was outstanding.

Forget comparing Mason to Price, who the hell is Price anyway? I'd say Dryden or Brodeur are better comparisons....

After just 15 games, he's made a bigger impact than Prices entire season? Calm your horses.

What if Mason starts struggling and ends up with crappy stats? Anything is possible, especially for a rookie.
