Well...now that Norrena has basically left Columbus, we can't afford to send Mason down.

Very good young goalie. I think it's a little to early to judge just how good he will be though. However, Columbus is going to be a scary team once they get some help on the back-end. That top six is setting up to be pretty lethal, but that defense is suspect.

I know eh? Cause Price totally plays for the team on which Jason Chimera is a top player

Mason > Price

Huet or Price, the Habs would have made the playoffs last year.

That's why Kitchener traded the farm to bring him in in an attempt to secure the Mem cup? (Didn't work since he had A/MCL issue (I don't remember which))

They gave up something like 4 future draft picks and 2 roster players to get him from London. This was when they already had a solid goaltender and were square in first in the OHL.

And you can tell that I am a Mason hater because?

I'm completely neutral on the subject yet I still believe we should wait for Mason to play more games to determine if he is "the real deal".

Also, the argument about Price having his stats padded by playing on a better team is pretty weak considering the Habs this year are 2-on-1 and breakaway festivals. It sure helps when your number 4 defenceman is Ryan O'Byrne, who scores on his own net, and falls twice in a period when receiving a pass in his end, causing consecutive 2-on-0.

So I just can't say Mason is better. I don't have anything to back it up.

Edit: Also, the comment on Mason's breakout passes was sarcastic, and yes, I have seen six of his games and nothing made me go "OMG TRETIAK!!1one!(sin90)!

I love Mason and I think he's great, but the hypocrisy in this thread is amazing. People complain all the time about Price being praised and all that because he hasn't play lots of games, yet people are doing the same thing with Mason, some even saying he's better then Price, yet after 15 games? Wow.

Mason is awesome and he's gonna be a great goalie, but the double standards on this board are ridiculous.

It's nice to see our young tender get some love/hate

on the big board. MacLean has been pounding his chest for drafting Dorsett in the last round... I think his taking a backup goalie that had no starts at the time of the draft in the 3rd round probably is a bigger coup.

I am old enough to remember Ken Dryden in his heyday... and this kid stands tall in the net like Dryden played. It's to early to say how good he can be.. but I like Mase.. and I think we will keep him here in Ohio. He flashes his glove, makes himself big and tempts people with an open 5 hole.. just like his idol Marty .. eh?

Price has handled himself for a young guy.. Jonas Hiller has been good too. Good starts for some young tenders.

All posters that are judging young Mase by whether Cbus gets in the playoffs really need to have a few beers... If he carries our Jackets to the playoffs it will be hurculean.

Ultimately it was Nazem Kadri, Phil Varone, Steven Tarasuk and a pick.

No, that's why Chet Pickard (Price's backup) was named the CHL goaltender of the year

O'Byrne > Backman

The only thing Backman hasn't done is score in his own net. I would take O'Byrne on the Jackets over Backman every day of the week.

Well you just haven't watched enough of him. Anyways, ask Habs fans.

Other than the Jackets, the team I watch most are the Habs. (I love watching Kovalev, Komisarek and Price.) I really don't think O'Byrne is as bad as Backman. But that's just my opinion.

I could easily ask you to do the same thing and ask Jackets fans about Backman.

I highly doubt you would want to trade the entire Habs defensive corps for the entire Jackets defensive corps.

BTW, this is completely unrelated to whether I think Mason is better than Price. I just don't think it is valid to say that the team in front of Price = the team in front of Mason.

It's concerning the system, which often seems to be forgotten by HF.

And believe me I don't think so either. I actually have never said so. Anyhow, I just hope Mason can keep up his play because that's the hardest part of his career.

With Leclaire playing as bad as he did in his "comeback" game against Dallas...

Mason better be the "real deal" or we are screwed...

Flames fan who is also a Jackets fan this season. Huselius is a favorite player of mine and Mason just got picked up in my pool, very impressed by what I've seen.

Even last year I didn't really bite on the Leclaire real deal. He wasn't very impressive the few games I saw him play against the Canucks. In the one game Mason played, he was incredible.

Mason is calm enough to do a lot of good things this year. He hasn't been overwhelmed yet - The closest he came was letting 4 goals by in his first game against Edmonton... But since the jackets came back and won the game - no harm done to the ego. Then he let 3 in against Montreal, but came up huge at the end and in the SO, and he hasn't looked back since... That's pretty impressive for not even really playing in the AHL at all - he's adjusted very well and I believe a lot of it has to do with his demeanor which will lead him a long way -

The team in front of mason isn't that bad... They started getting him pretty good clear lanes to see the puck, and like a solid goalie he shut it down. Columbus is rebuilt this year and is starting to gel. They've caught a few bad breaks and have outplayed most teams this year but aren't finishing. I imagine after the new year they will go on a couple tears as they become accustomed to each others style. The Jackets will be dangerous very soon - Maybe the end of this year, maybe next year - but soon. Filatov, Voracek, Brassard and Mason - I mean that's a whole top line and a top goalie added to your team in one year - Add in Nash, Huselius, Modin and Umberger - It'll be a nice mix. Yes, a top 4 right handed d man would be nice too...

Not sure about ratings and all but, though the Hawks beat him, he looked pretty damned good.
