Stephen Weiss didn't practice today, but Pete DeBoer says he's coming north with the team and is 50-50 for tomorrow. Rostislav Olesz still hasn't skated since injuring his groin, PDeB saying it's more serious an injury that first thought and he may be out for a little while.

Keith Ballard was back at practice after missing Tuesday's session because of a family issue.

Red Hot Cat Of The Night Jay Bouwmeester, with 15 points in his last 16 games, leads the team in points and assists.

Primary Target

Tonight is Eric Staal Bobblehead night. The first 10,000 fans to the RBC Center will receive one of these. Now before you all get into your "dive" jokes and what not, let's remember that Staal has done a good amount in his career to be worthy of such an honor to be bobbleheaded. After all, who's head flails better when falling to the ice upon "skating so fast and losing an edge"?

LET'S GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome game day thread like usual. Tonight let's finish up this road trip in style with a beating of the Hurricanes. A win tonight is big, as we will be officially tied for the 8th playoff spot with two home games before Christmas (which should be winnable.) Let's go out there tonight, play hard and execute.

I have some bad news for you all.

Staal is not playing tonight. He really hurt his neck when he was viciously checked into the boards during his last game against Montreal. He really went down hard and stayed down for a while so the injury was serious enough to force a penalty to have to be called. I mean, you can't not call it if the guy hurts his neck on such a dangerous and violent play.

Wait, he played on the ensuing powerplay? WTF? Must have just been a flop -- my bad!

Excellent GDT, thank you for taking the time to putting it together for us. I just want the same level of effort we've seen of late. That will pay off more often than not.

Hey guys!!! Good to see you in a much better mood since we met last time.

I was impressed with the little trip to the West and it looks like coach finally got this team going.

Lets hope for an exciting game tonight. it should be fun.

It's nice to see the injury list at 4 instead of 7 or 8...

also as we figured:

Anthony Stewart or Nick Tarnasky going to be scratched tonight. Pete wouldn't tell us who...
seems like that'll be the case as long as everyone's healthy, though i think i might like to see what those two could do with kreps in between them.

Put Kreps inbetween them and who centers Frolik/Stillman? You can't put Kreps on the 4th line because he's our 2nd best center.

Carolina had 11 powerplays last game.

Montreal had 1 in the last minutes of the game.

Go figure.

So Weiss is playing. Going by what PDB said, and GR reported, the lines will look like:

Express Line
CPR line
Zednik - Kreps - Frolik
Stillman - McLean - Stewy or Tanarsky

Im not really a fan of the way the lines are set up, but I trust PDB. I just dont see Stillman playing with those two, but going by what they said, thats what it looks like.

Looks way better than it has lately, but we've been winning, so hopefully this doesn't screw things up. The CPR line still needs to produce offensively while Horton needs to show some more grit. Frolik and Kreps seem to have some chemistry, but Zednik needs to start scoring some goals, as does McLean.

I agree, its much more talented than before, but I think this looks more balanced:

Booth - Weiss - Frolik
Stillman - Kreps - Horton
CPR Line
Stewy - McLean - Tanarsky

All four lines have players that have played with each other for a period of time, and you move our two best snipers on to two different lines, spreading out the offense.

I really think if Weiss is back, then Cory takes Zed's spot. I can't imagine he'd be playing on the 4th line.

i think folks are way too hung up on this 4th line 3rd line top 6 bottom 6 crap.

CPR is going to probably get somewhere between 2 and 3rd line minutes on a given night, right? 3 weeks ago, that would've produced the following response: "CPR? they CAN'T get 2nd/3rd line minutes! they're basically 4th line players!"

my point is that kreps between tarnasky and stewie could help offensive production. that would assume something like stillman centering frolik and zeds. you end up with a mix of 1b/2a/2b/3a/whateveryouwannacallit lines who are hopefully all playing with the same intensity as CPR was/is but maybe able to help spread the scoring load a little bit.

I think the lines should look like this.

Booth-Weiss-Horton
Stillman-Kreps-Frolik
Peltonin-Campbell-Dvorek
Tarnasky-McLean-Zednik

No, it's not about which line they're on it's about the players they are playing with. Would you want Frolik or Booth with Tarnasky and Stewart? No, that wouldn't make sense.

I don't care what "line" it is, I don't want to see Kreps playing with 4th line skilled grinders. I just don't see it utilizing his skillset appropriately.

Also, moving Stillman to center wouldn't make much sense either as he's played wing for so long.
