[...but we'd have to give up Chris Higgins.

Gainey said 'thanks, but no thanks'

DO IT. Higgins future is a good 3rd liner and 2nd liner at best, isn't it?

Higgins, Perezhogin and the younger AK must stay!

Hossa, Plekanec and Hainsey are the bait we can use for O'Neill IMO.

Higgins - Elite checking line centre with potential playing on top 2 line. Mike Peca comes into mind. He may not be as dirty as Peca but certainly he'll be as effective, if not better than Peca. And of course, it is just my opinion.

Higgins will be a strong 2nd line center... something every team needs, we have to hold on to him.

He has "star" written all over him...in my opinion...he is one of our untouchables.

as much as I don't mind trading either of them... i think they will both be solid players... they just take a little more time to develop... and i don't mind waiting... especially for hainsey (we're deep up front)

Exactly ! It's all nice and dandy to load up for a playoffs run but Higgins, Perezhogin, Komisarek and AK are untouchables.

He has way more offensive upside than that.

Oh no... According to McKeen's Hockey Prospects, Higgins is an uptempo first line player with tremendous offensive upside who will be a catalyst... no more prospects, Bob, excepted Hossa and Hainsey...

As secretive as Gainey has been so far, I find it hard to believe anything the media believes or wishes what trades were being negotiated.

That being said, I am not saying Higgins is an under or an overpayment for O'Neill, because I really don't know, I am just saying this sounds alot like the media trying to cure our curiosity, which they are so good at doing!

Higgins' peak is a good two-way high end 1st or 2nd line player; he's also known as a leader; in HF lingo, I'd give him an 8.

O'Neil on the other hand is a guy who can manage to suck for most of a season because his team sucks; with his talent, he should be carrying that team on his shoulders.
