The cap space allows the Canuks to not have to waive anyone.

They still have enough for six million dollars at the trade deadline.

Who does he think we are.
The Rangers would have gotten rid of Roszival's 5 million dollar salary, traded for Avery and then probably waived him to the minors. They've got money, I don't think they'd care that he's there if it meant Sundin was playing on their team.

That or there was more to the package than exposed. Can't go by what Ecklund thinks, usually is 90% made up, 5% an actual rumor he got after reading TSN/Other rumored sites, and 5% what he would like to see happen.

Oh I know he's pretty much never right. I was just saying that it was doable.

We play Vancouver twice this year, on the 28th and the other game is Feb. 19th. On the trade rumor forum thread about the Sundin signing, they were saying that he wont play until after the new year so we'll only play him once this season.

Crap, totally forgot about the home games against edm/van/cal this year. That sens calendar on my fridge is too far from my computer.

But Mats Sundin is taking an NHL job from someone.

Really, if he went to the Rangers, chances are he wouldnt be, as those players would either be traded or claimed, because they had to get rid of quality to sign him.

If the Canuks send no one down, then I don't see where he is taking a job from someone.

Well, maybe Sundin actually signing will open up the market. There are a lot of veteran players looking for work or down in the minors. Plus there are GMs wanting to move players.

I don't expect that there will be much today, unless there was something cooked already and waiting for Sundin, but maybe the market will open us a little for Ottawa.

Seriously, how in the **** did you expect us to match that price!

Glad he signed somewhere. I was really getting tired of Sundin holding the NHL hostage; no one wants to trade until Sundin signs.

So, now he signed, let business begin...

BTW, congrats to the Canucks on the signing.

Do you still take that statement seriously?

It's been a running joke for a few weeks now.

I was pretty shocked that Sundin went to the Canucks over the Rangers (or even Canadiens) (even with Sundin I don't think the Canucks are even close to SJ or Detroit) but it just occured to me that it might simply because he wanted to play as soon as possible; if Sundin had gone to any team that needed to move some players (e.g. NYR) to sign him, they probably wouldn't have been able to do it by end of day today which goes into the 'NHL Holiday Roster Freeze' which means that they wouldn't have been able to make a move to get him under their cap until the freeze is over - it's only a week but it's a week more that he'd have to wait (although it didn't really look like he was in a hurry ...)
