I was stunned how good Grachev was. I think he has a chance to be a star in the NHL. I had no idea he could skate like that with his size. You know, drafting this kid makes up for the Jessiman pick. He plays how Jessiman should have. I agree, this kid is going to make the team next year. Usually I believe players need AHL time. Not this kid. This kid is the real deal and I love him at center. In other words, he makes Gomez expendable.

He's going to be what Arthuykin never really became.

I don't think I saw him lose one face off

Team MVP? I don't know about that. He was good though

Did he not get an assist on the 4th goal?

Grachev was awarded Player of the Game for Team Russia.

He really looked good out there, after watching him I'm not sure where people got the idea his skating is bad.

He's such a tought player to figure out. Everytime the Rangers play Tampa he looks dominant out there, he hits everything, has a great shot and is always driving to the net. When I saw he only has like 10 points I was very confused.

No 18 is very young for the AHL. nobody knew he'd adapt to the NA game this quickly, but still a year of junior will only benefit him.

Was wondering if Grachev's arrival in Hartford was scheduled somehow? Next year, maybe? Any hints?

2-1 with a snipe from the point. I'm really impressed with Tatar.

Edit: Filatov with a nice slapped. Assisted by Grachev. Man I wish we had Filatov. Gomer for Nikita. Get it done.

Pierre said he spoke to the Rangers scouts today and were obviously impressed by Grachev and the Rangers felt he could play in the NHL next season.Miller said the Rangers already have good depth at center and in response Pierre said the NHL is a fluid situation.Whatever that means.

Gordie Clark is there.Probably Jeff Gorton too.

But he is not being considered a center by the Rangers organization.

I don't think it is a coincidence that Brampton has him playing on the Left Wing.

That is almost assuredly because the Rangers brass told them that is where they would like him to play.

He is being developed as a winger.

What he does in international play really holds no barring on what happens with his development within the Rangers organization's plans.

I have no doubts that he'll be in Hartford next year.

Well he has been dominant on faceoffs so far

Still, he has no place as a center on the team unless one of Gomez or Drury is moved and either Anisimov or Dubinsky are converted to wings (I do believe that Dubinsky would be a better wing...).

That was supposedly one of his strengths when he was drafted.

The rangers need that kind of size on the wing and with dubinsky and anismov ahead of him on the depth chart and with players like hagelin, stepan, korpikoski who already can play both center and wing it makes sense for him to be moved to wing as he is a more pure goal scorer than any of those players and has the speed and size to be a physical presence along the boards.

Oh I agree fully I dream of a Grachev-AA-Dubi line.

Grachev-AA-Dubinsky

That line would be a puck possession power.

I hope AA develops into a better version of O. Jokinen. I hope Grachev is our mini-Malkin.

To be fair to Dubinsky, he is 50.5% on face offs this year.

Gomez is only 1.0% higher.

The NYR brass told Brampton to use him as a wing so thats probably where he will play in NY too. I 100% I read that somewhere. I think it was Renney maybe who said that they had to make a decision where he should play, and then it came out that they wanted him as a wing. Was at camp time.

I agree 200% with that decision. Grachev is struggling to stay with the tempo in the WJC's. He needs to be put in a "role players" position to succed at this level.

I love him as a prospect, but I think there is very little chance for him to succed in the NHL as a center, to become a mini Malkin. As a winger in a Malone/Franzen type of role, the sky is the limit. But looking around the NHL; every center who makes it almost it seems is liek 6'1 or something. Krejci, Booth, Pavelski, Dubinsky and several others.

I've seen Grachev for example go in on the forecheck several times in the WJC's, his man curves out along the boards and Gra trys to follow him. He struggles with accelerarting while turning and boom Russia got a giant hole in the neutral zone. Like its one thing to loose your LW on a forecheck like that, or RW. But when the player who is supposed to be one of the players back is lost like that its a catastrophe.

The more I see of Nemchinov the more I think he might be the worst high profile, ex player, coach I've ever seen actually. Down the road its possible that Grachev could develop so much that he is ready to skate up and down, up and down, up and down with a Zach Parise 20 minutes per game. But right now he just isn't ready to play center.
