I don't think Calgary needs a second line center, we need a first line center. Langkow, Conroy, nor Lombardi can be considered first line centers in my opinion. We need someone who can actually play with Iginla 82 games a season, not on and off the first line. Something along the lines of Marleau, Jokinen, Savard. I doubt we will be making any moves for a first line center with Langkow being paid 5 million a year.

Valtteri Filppula has great contract right now 3 million for 4 more years.
Why Detroit trades him. Well Holland is gonig to need every dollar to be able to keep Zetterberg, Franzen, and Hudler plus maybe Hossa.
They would ask for one top prospect or middle of pack + high draft pick.

Nylander .... couldn't take on much of a cap hit coming back, so picks / prospects of the defensive variety would likely be the return. Any offers?

Jordan Staal is thrown around a lot for trade offers. Pit would want a winger out of the deal though, so i dunno what calgary would give up

Well, according to Pierre Mcguire during the WJC game today, if Sutter was willing to part with Backlund this offseason, Olli Jokinen would've been a Flame, but he refused to.
Having said that, I don't believe Sutter is willing to pay the price in a trade for a top tier Centermen if the opposing team is looking for Backlund in return (whom IMO had a really strong game today).

I can see Dustin Boyd + Lelande Irving being used as trade bait though.

I've heard that Spezza isn't really impressing the coach, I'd love for him to come to Calgary, but I doubt it will ever happen.

with backlund off limits your looking at multiple prospects. and there isnt much in the way of salary to shed without hurting the team.

that being said danny briere coul be had if the price is right.

I am not sure what you really are looking for—short term or long term. Some in Calgary seem to feel they need a first line center.

That said, if I were Isles GM you could have any of two centers who could all fit the #2 slot...

Doug Weight is a on a one-year deal and would be a UFA next summer, but he is having a very big year (almost a ppg) on a very bad Islanders team. I would start by asking for a first round pick in 2009 but I would be willing to listen to offers—keep in mind—I am a rebuilding team and want picks and prospects.

Mike Comrie is another option to fill the second line role for the Flames. On the right team he is a perfect second line center fit. He is alos young enough where you could sign him to a long term deal. Here again, I would look for a high pick or prospect of real value. Negotiable as well.

Lesser center, but still offering big help especially during a playoff push/run is Mike Sillinger. He can score some goals, and in a beast in the faceoff circle. He is also a very good penalty killer. Again, he is older, so a 2nd or 3rd round pick would likely get this done.

The Islanders are looking for picks and prospects to go with what is likely to be a top 4 overall pick of their own this season at the draft. I am personally hoping they end up with Tavares or Hedman!

Plekanec for Aucoin.

I know some will say Montreal loses this one, but we have too many Plekanec type players, and I really want to open up a permanent spot for Chipchura, who is exactly the type of player we need.

It's also very well known that our biggest need is an experienced d-man who can play the point and has some size, aucoin fits that bill.
