Being from Boston I can say we will never acquire malkin, crosby, or ovechkin. Unless we get some steal like our dealing of Thornton (by the man whose name cannot be spoken). I could maybe see us dealing off a something like Bergeron, sturm, kessel, hunwick, colbourne, and a 1st rounder.
But that could burn Boston more than the Thornton trade.

He would be the start of any Malkin discussion.

As a Bruins fan, I wouldn't do that or anything close to it. The upgrade from Kessel to Malkin isn't big enough to warrant giving up all those other parts IMO.

As much as Malkin, Crosby and Ovechkin are the best in the game, if you're giving up your own franchise player plus other key parts of your roster, it's not worth it.

The Sharks would probably do Thornton and Boyle if the time was right (offseason), no?
Uhm... no. Just no.

Thornton is one of the few players in the league that would be close to a straight up trade for Malkin. He's more experienced, incredibly consistent and in his prime. For Crosby, it does SJ no real good because he's too soft, and Thornton already generates all the publicity for SJ that any player possibly could in the hockey market that is available.

Add on Boyle? Front runner for the Norris this season? Not a chance. Hell, I wouldn't even do Thornton + Boyle for Crosby + Malkin because I prefer the balance and it would destroy us cap wise.

Anyway, if we wanted Malkin, have to be big time salary going back. Something like Thornton + Cheechoo for Malkin might work. Still, SJ LOVES Joe, he's the ONLY superstar athlete in the San Francisco bay area at this point, and we are hugely loyal fans. We stick with what we got I think.

Hypothetically, if somebody wanted Malkin and the Pens for some bizarre reason wanted to deal him, and some team like Columbus wanted him, the CBJ would have to give up

Nash,
Filatov,
Brassard,
Voracek,
1st
and Klesla

It would be that hard, and no team would be willing to do it.

If someone like Edmonton wanted him,

Gagner
Cogliano
Gilbert
Nilsson
Hemsky
Horcoff

All would have to be going back. Lowe wouldn't do it.

And Crosby is virtually untouchable under all circumstances. His value to the Pens reaches so far beyond what he does on the ice--He will never be traded, IMO.

At this stage, it would be too difficult for any GM's to agree on that kind of deal.

Hmm the crack is pretty good in your area it seems.

From an edmonton standpoint you would have to remove Hemsky and Gagner from that offer. We are a deep team talentwise, but your proposal is plain stupid. No team would ever make the deal's as you proposed them.

From the Columbus standpoint remove nash and they might look at it but its a bad rip off otherwise.

Salary Cap.

That makes any trade for Crosby or Malkin pretty much impossible to even concieve of value. Sure you could come up with a combination of players that would be even more valuable than either of them but the Pens could not keep them all in a cap world. So the parts do not equal the one for several reasons.

Considering only 2 players have more points than Malkin does assists, that isn't very likely.

Value to franchise > Value on the market.

Endorsing a Crosby or Ovechkin gives the franchise as much profit as a team winning the Stanley Cup.

I think you're underestimating Malkin's trade value a little. A deal like this might be more realistic:

To Pittsburgh
Jarome Iginla
Dion Phaneuf
Robyn Regehr
Jonathan Toews
Patrick Kane
Brian Campbell
Henrik Zetterberg
Pavel Datsyuk
Nik Lidstrom
Dustin Brown
Anze Kopitar
Drew Doughty
Alexander Ovechkin
Alexander Semin
Nick Backstrom
Simon Gagne
Mike Richards
Jeff Carter
Roberto Luongo
Mats Sundin
Both Sedins
Joe Thornton
Devin Setoguchi
Patrick Marleau
Dan Boyle
Marc Savard
Milan Lucic
Patrice Bergeron

To Calgary, Chicago, Detroit, L.A., Washington, Philadelphia, Vancouver, San Jose and Boston
The use of Malkin for approximately 5 games each this season, plus each of the 9 teams will have their names put into a hat and whichever team's name is drawn will receive a 6th round pick in 2036.

Maybe make it a 5th round pick. I think Shero would have to consider it.
