How can Ottawa get Shea Weber? Offers?

Shea Weber is a dynamic defenseman who can move the puck, produce offense ( 11 goals/ 15 assists) and crunch people whenever he sees fit. I believe he would solve Ottawa's defense problem but would be very costly. I think he is under-rated and is hidden by playing in Nashville and should come to a Canadian franchise were he would recieve a little more publicity. So what are some offers or bashings out there?

The simple answer is that they can't get Shea Weber.

Jason Spezza and Anton Volchenkov for Shea Weber and J.P. Dumont?

I'd only trade Spezza if we get a young very good defenseman back...and we do that there. If Nashville wants more, then yea...I'll keep Spezza.

Last season this was the standard Canadian/big hockey market post about Alexander Ovechkin.

Why not? [If you mean in terms of trade value] I don't know if Nashville will ever trade Weber....but There are not a lot of Spezza's in NHL, either.

So underrated....

Here's really all Nashville has at this point. It would take a lot to pry him out of there and I don't think Ottawa would realistically give up what it would take to get him.

It has nothing to do with Spezza. I don't underrate him at all. It has to do with the fact that Nashville won't trade Weber. The Predators decided to build their team from the net on out (taking Weber and Suter in the same draft). It was a conscious decision, and I would guess that they won't be deviating from that plan.

So you feel that any of these players are equally important to Nashville's future as Weber?

Shea Weber is easily the closest thing to an elite piece that franchise has...yes they have some other good players but none of them are as good as Weber is now or have the ceiling he has.

Don't take everything you read as an attack on your team. It was meant as a high compliment to a great young player.

The reason is, Nashville if they are trading him are going to want something of equal value talent and $. All Ottawa has that's equal talent would be Spezza, Heatley, or Alfie, and I doubt Nashville is willing to take on that salary. So unless they are offering something like Karlsson, Vermette and multiple picks they don't match.

I'm thinking Nashville isn't looking for a $7 million player... you know since they made a point to dump all their contracts over $5 million

Hope that Nashville folds and the Senators have the first pick in the dispersal draft?

The best way to get a Shea Weber type is through the draft.

Ottawa should really just tank, get a high 1st rounder (hopefully somebody who can step in right away) and then come back hard next season.

This kind of smacks of arrogance, intentional or not.

Last year was probably Ottawa's best chance at acquiring Weber but even then, it was probably between slim and none.

How often do you see Webs tearing up the highlite reel? Willie Mitchel gets more publicity than Shea Weber.

Nashville will relocate before they fold.
