Ottawa - Islanders

The Islanders recieve a 1st-line centerman in Jason Spezza, with Josh Bailey developing, it could be a nice 1-2 punch in the future. They also get a premier checking 3rd-line center in Chris Kelly. We receive a budding powerfoward in Okposo, a small quarterback in the mold of Erik Karlsson in Aaron Ness. And a potential high end pick that would allow us to hopefully replenish our center depth, meanwhile we have a few natural centermens that can fill the void for the remainder of the season. Bass could be developed to replace Kelly, Vermette would play a top 6 role at center. Winchester can even play center . With the amount of cap space saved we can go out and get immediate help on free agency. Ie: JayBo, Havlat, Hossa, Franzen, etc. We would become one of the biggest buyers next summer with Gerber's, Spezza's and Kelly's salary cleared up. With Spezza and Kelly traded, our pick will likely be in the top 8 adding another potential high-impact prospect.

Kyle Okposo - Budding powerfoward
Aaron Ness - Small skilled powerplay quarterback
1st round pick (2009) - High-end pick

for

Jason Spezza
Chris Kelly

Even for Spezza, I cant see the Isles trading Hedman(lotto pick, looking like they will have) and okposo.

Islanders gets ripped off....(not by much)
You are trading a rising star (Okposo) and the 1st round pick (likely to be Hedman or Tavares) for Spezza and Kelly....

As an Islander fan I'd have a hard time pasing this up. Spezza-Bailey-Nielsen-Kelly is a pretty good center core.

I don't see Garth doing this though because it doesn't really fit in for us as a team that should be rebuilding. Could be Yashin part II, and put me on record as a Spezza fan. And that's only because I beleive we'd be best served seing this rebuild through rather than rusing things like we did in 2001.

Who says the Sens don't want Spezza any more?

This deal is good for the Senators ONLY if they fall completely to the bottom of the conference.

Just some myth that he will be traded, and the majority of offers are laughable.

The Islanders have committed to building from within via stockpiling high end prospects.

Jason Spezza does not make them a playoff team, let alone a contender.

So why deal three of their best assets for a guy who won't get them anywhere?

It would be absurd for the Islanders to entertain this.

Isles are rebuilding. I'm assuming they'll be terrible for 3-4 years before they become half way competitive. Spezza (a very good player) is not someone who the Isles can re-build around, without getting more highend talent, and that comes though the draft. Trading Okposo and 1st 2009 would leave the Isles with exactly other one high end player, and that's IF Bailey develops to his fullest.

If Ottawa wants to trade Spezza, meybe try a team further along in their rebuild or a contender

So, you don't build around 25 year old 90 pt centers who are finally playing complete games. That's new to me.

Which is exactly why the Sens should keep Spezza, and the Isles will keep the pick (AND Okposo, AND Ness).

Nice try though.

So our future 1st liner, our future franchise player (Taveres/Hedman), and one of our better defensive prospects (Ness)

for

a very good 1st liner in Spezza and Kell who is a good 3rd liner?

i'm a Spezza fan, but no thanks. yea you can build around him, but we essentially lose some of the biggest components in building around him in the deal. i'd part with Okposo but our 1st rounder absolutely not and throwing Ness on top of that destroys it for me, we're thin on defense prospects as is.

So he finally starts to put together defensive responsibilities. We've all seen it happen before. Big whoop.

Vomit. Shades of a MM trading pedigree. Especially reminiscent of a certain ex-Sen.

: laugh::l augh:

So... allow me to get this straight.

A blossoming star in Kyle Okposo, Victor Hedman/John Tavares.. for..

Jason Spezza and Chris Kelly. Not only that, you want Ness on top of that?
: laugh:

The Islanders are not moving Okposo, they are not moving what is likely to be Tavares(two stars who are going to cause a bit of havoc in this league) AND Aaron Ness for a player in Spezza who ALONE couldn't help that team win crap.

A nice stats player, some nice dazzling moves, but I'd sign up for Okposo + Hedman/Tavares over Jason Spezza anyday.

I mean, jesus christ, are you kidding me?

Not TERRIBLE from both sides, but I definitely like the Sens' end of the deal better. That first round pick should be top 5, Okposo will be a force in this league, and Ness will be a good player on the backend. I don't like the deal, and the more I think about it the more I hate it from the Islanders' POV.
