Mock GM Game

for anyone interested, here's the 3 deals I made. (there was a limit to 3 deals, i was unaware of, so i didn't get to make 2 subsequent deals to drop Spacek and Connolly for picks.)

My goal was a quick rebuild. My logic was that this team was dominant when the players in their prime were carrying the team, and the young guys were able to succeed in secondary roles. Now those young players have assumed the top spots and are entering their prime years, its time to rebuild the youth.

Stafford, Mancari, Numminen
for
Zach Boychuck, Bobby Hughes, Anton Babchuck, and 2nd rounder

The Sabres acquire a young Center with size and skill who could be in the league next year. He has Top 6 center written all over him. Hughes is another Center with skill, he could be moved to wing as well. Babchuck is a RFA. He's a soft, big guy with a right handed shot. He is relatively inexpensive (1.0) and would fill a 3rd pairing role well.

Afinogenov, Paille
for
Carle, Nodl, 1st

Robbery. Carle is the 2nd pairing puck mover we really need and he will certainly improve the PP. Nodl is an Austrian to groom for as Vanek's long term RWer. AND A 1ST!

Kotalik, Paetsch
for
Ryan Stone, Nashville 3rd in 09, Pitt 2nd in 2010

some dumps. Stone could be a 3rd liner soon, and is already 4th line ready as a tough Center. 2 more picks.

2009-2010 LU

Vanek-Boychuck-Nodl
Gerbe-Roy-Poms
Hecht-MacArthur-Goose
Mair-Stone-Kaleta
x Peters

Lydman-Sekera
Carle-Rivet
Butler-Babchuck
x Weber

Connolly, Spacek, and Tallinder traded for picks/prospects

Nice work. Paille trade was absolute robbery.

1 - Good

2 - Amazing

3 - I can see why, but I'm mixed. Don't know enough about Stone.

Overall, very well done, Jame.

Nice. Keep us posted. I love these things. Makes me excited for what this team could be if we had an active GM. Or at least one with a pulse.

Buf 1st
Phi 1st
Brennan
Tallinder

1st line center problem solved

also have Boychuck Hughes and Stone as young centers now as well. Nodl as a young winger.

pressure is on Weber and Butler to be ready, and Myers to develop fast.

Vanek-Stamkos-Poms
Gerbe-Roy-Gaustad (protecting the little guys)
Hecht-Boychuck-MacArthur
Kaleta-Stone-Mair
X Peters, Nodl

Lydman-Sekera
Carle-Rivet
Butler-Babchuck
x Weber
puck movers and stay at homers on top pairings

That's a lot considering how crap Buffalo is this season, but looking at the improved lineup, it's a great deal. Guys with his skillset are rare, and for him to be halfway through his rookie season...even better.

yea, it looks like i trade a #10-#15, and a #22-#28 for last year's #1 overall who fills our biggest need. and i didn't give up Myers, Enroth, or Gerbe

Final Roster for this season:

Vanek(7.143)-Stamkos(3.725)-Poms(1.033)
Gerbe(.850)-Roy(4.0)-Gaustad(2.3)
Hecht(3.525)-MacArthur(.522)-Nodl(.795)
Mair(.758)-Stone(.550)-Kaleta(.492)
x Peters(.525), Connolly (IR)

Lydman(2.875)-Sekera(.675)
Carle(3.438)-Rivet(3.5)
Butler(.55)-Babchuck(1.0)
x Weber(.75)

Miller(2.667)
Lalime(1.0)

46.673 cap

Prospects added
Stamkos C
Boychuck C
Nodl RW
Hughes C
Stone C

Picks gained
09 2nd, 10 2nd, 09 3rd

players/picks traded
Stafford, Mancari, Kotalik, Afinogenov, Numminen, Paille, Paetsch, Tallinder, Brennan, Buf 1st 09, Phi 1st 2010

but really it is all about next year.

My goals were to dump dead weight, add as much youth as possible, get a puck moving defensemen, expand the depth at center... getting a franchise 1st line center was gravy.

oh yea and RFA's resigned were:
Sekera 4 years 2.75 cap
MacArthur 1 year .855 cap
Kaleta 3 years .750 cap

this happens in EHM:

Vanek - Crosby - Ovechkin
E.Staal - Malkin - Horton
Pominville - Briere - Dumont
Hunter - Roy - Godard

Lydman - Seabrook
Phaneuf - S. Weber
Allen - Smith

Miller
Noronen

caphit: 29.5 mil

including masterpiece trades like Tri Kalinin +1st rounder for Alex Ovechkin or Mike Grier + Alex Kotalik for Malkin or Henrik Tallinder +3rd and 6th rounder for Phaneuf.

Well done, Jame. From the perspective of a draft junkie, I'm glad to see an additional 2nd and 3rd added to somewhat make up for the loss of two 1st.

Lines look good, core prospects are still around, and you brought in a potential franchise centerman.

There was a HF user game on the Fantasy Board. I did a two round mock with trades a few years back and dumped Pyatt for Tollefsson and a 2nd.
