Playoff Roulette

Considering the fact that the first 4 conference spots are filled by TAM, OTT, TOR, or PHA but not in that order; a 5 th, 6 th, 7th or 8th finish by ther Isles makes little difference since the top 4 can move around. The Isles will just play well enough down the stretch to keep ahead of FLA. Last night's TOR game had very little hitting or physical play. None of the emotional stuff with Tucker or Domi etc.

NYI are probably going to place 7 or 8. Like you said, there is nothing they can do about 1-4 and who places there.

However, they can decide how they want to enter the playoffs. Go in playing well like 2 years ago without 9 zillion questions or float in with 9 zillion questions like last year. Neither earned them an advancement beyond the 1st round, but the difference in level of play by NYI was obvious.

The way the standings are right now at best they could get as high as 7th and their not really being pushed from behind. The team has nothing to play for and they are showing it the last few games. Stirling can use this to his advantage though. The top teams are going to be playing hard right to the end as there is not much separation in the standings. The Isles have a chance to at least be well rested and healthy going into the playoffs which won't be true for the top teams.
Stirling can play 4 lines and 6 d-men now and the last 5 games get the team focused to turn it up a notch as they go into the playoffs. A team 100 % healthy and a hot goalie can steal a round in the playoffs.

In spite of all the negative criticism, the team has put out 100% or better in many games. Considering the loss of Yashin, Parrish and slow recovery of Peca etc. Return of Yashin and deadline trade may give them the added boost. Would be nice to see Weinhandl, Papineau and Kvasha do some scoring etc.
