On February 18, 2009, he was named the Russian national team's captain for the 2010 Olympics.
Is this true??

Not sure
Wiki is not a reliable place for info.
tried to look other websites, no info on it

well Morozov is most likely to make the olympic roster so i'd be a bit surprised someone else being picked as captain

Аny chanse for Sergei Zubov? What do you think russian fellows?
In his prime I think he was the best russian def.
His advantages are so many:

Zubov is very,very smart
great experience
great playmaking
right hand shot- Russia doesn't have so many d-players with right forеhand(when I think about it only Babchuk comes to my mind)
By the way I don't know Zubov's status now (is he injured or not).
But I hope he will be healthy for Olympic games.

I don't know what ate relationships between V. Bykov and Zubov but I really depend on Zubov calling in "сборная"!

Thoughts?

I would say it is almost impossible. The only way he can make the Olympic roster which has to be submitted by December 31st is to be fully prepared for the new season and to come to the national team training camp in August. If this happens and he starts 09/10 season without missing games while performing well, there's a possibility he will be in the roster.

Honestly, considering the fact that he is going to be 39 in July and that he basically missed last season due to an injury, there is almost no chance he gets a call. I have to also mention that he has not played for the national team for a long time, so I am not sure if he wants to come back.

because any lineup created by a North American user consists of NHL players mostly; however, the situation is that there are players in the KHL who are better skill wise and have a lot more chemistry and passion to the national team.

You are right but for instance Fedorov is almost 39 so I think he can help a lot of national team-you saw how he played with Caps this season.
Yes Zubov wasn't in the team for long time but I think the reason was ex- boss of russian ice hockey federation sorry I forgot his name.

Right, but unlike Fedorov Zubov hasn't played much hockey last 2 years at all. I'd like to see him get an opportunity to prove himself, but I also don't think he's close to the player he once was.

Yes, Zubov wouldn't play for national team because there was an 'incident' between Steblin and his wife.

i go for the USA, but Russia is my 2nd fav. national team, and they will probably end up going to the finals since they have such wonderful players, Kovalchuck is my fav., i think he should be A , since highly porbable Morozov will get the C ......

and ViD, Kovalchuk for example is more skilled than any player in the KHL and has just as much or probably more passion than anyone i know in the Russian team...the guy has been there the past few years in the WC and has won it with heart and passion

by the way, do you guys think if Varlamov has a great start of season he might get called up instead of Bryz or Khabi if they have bad starts to their season?

Markov will be out 3-4 months so he should be playing by olympic time.
Big question is - what form will he be in?
