Yeah Canada manages to win...You mean 1 Medal in 3 Olympics given to them by Belarus.............Until Russia loses to Swiss or ties Latvia like US and Canada did lately I'm not worried. We shouldn't be concerned about the opposition cuz on paper we will be too much in 2010. The focus should be on coaching and decent organisation preparation of the team. This will be the second 198-1 for Canadian hockey fans and for the ingorant biased Anti-Russia "Russians" out here. Quebec City 2008 will be a nice prelude ! Just like 1979 6-0 at MSG was for 198-1 in Montreal.
I'm bashing the league who refuses to suspend this goon for life or at least as much as native Simon because the Anaheim GM is getting is a$$ .... by the nhl people...And if you don't believe me just watch little Saku Koivu making him look like a fool in Turin. Zubov will play if the team make up is intelligent simple. If you would watch nhl games on small ice you'd know that the top pairing plays about 25min. 30min. So if Markov Gonchar Volchenkov gets those minutes then the rest just get 10-12min. max so no worry. Please again what did Zhukov did in 2006 vs. Canada?
It says enough when you didn't know Ottawa tried to trade Redden all year and that he is now their #4 D playing terrible and they regret a lot letting Chara go...The guy was overrated from the start play decent for some years but now since some time he's done.
What was the last time Canada beat us with skill? It never happened. They always had to play ultra-dirty and have the refs turn a blind eye, not to mention home ice advantage nearly every time.
We saw what happened when Canada turned away fom the dirty game and tried to beat us wih skill. They got smashed.
When was the last time Canada beat Russia at the Olympics??????? I'll have to search for this one!!! Fixed WWF like Canada Cups doesn't count. Especially when the only time USSR sent or had their best team was 1981 and 1987 and we know what happened then ! So I'll search for our last lost vs. Canada at Olympics since were talking about that.
1987 WWF Cup was the biggest disgrace in hockey history. Yet the Canadian till see it as their second biggest sorting moment after 1972. 1972...the world got to se what classless playes and what classless hockey Canada produced.
There's no pride in winning when you had bought the refs to do it. Well since Canada suck at every other big sport Football Tennis Basketball they have they had to do everything they could to win in the only sport (albeit minor sport worldwide) they had a chance...1987 USSR outplayed Canada all series long especially in the third game leading 3-0 after 8min. before the CANADIAN REF gave many false Canadian PP including one on a awful Gretzky dive wich still has Don Cherry shaking his head to this day! No wonder for him Bobby Orr is the greatest AHAHAHAHA
Finally I'l repeat it for those who can't read can't understand or have no memory. Canada= 600 000 hockey players. Russia = 75 000 players so stop your irrelevant argument about depth please. Russia will have 23 good enough players to win it fairly WITH STYLE.

Imagine if Russia had 600,000 players, we'd dominate every single tournament and go undefeated for like 10 years straight.
Well everyone knows Russia plays the most attractive hockey. Even here in Canada everybody will agree than Ovechkin-Malkin are a million time more fun to watch than the Thornton's and the Heatley's...

Russia Hockey is an Art.
The Czechs also play nice hockey, but the way Russia plays is like you said, pure art. Absolutely unbelievable.
For anyone who watches football, Russian hockey provides the individual skill of Brazilians with the creativity of Argentinians.
Exactly. While Canada plays the boring kick and run dump and chase ENGLAND STYLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The difference in Football is there was no England Cup with their refs and the rules have always been enforced that's why England has won nothing in Centuries !

Ha, so true. Canadian players don't have the smarts to play attractice hockey, let's be honest.
A few of them have but their coaches will tell them " hey Sidney you can't turn the puck like that make sure you think defense first" all that garbage. But for the most part their teams play like England while I agree Russian Hockey is Artistry like Brazil Argentina Holland!!!
Russia will have(most likely) most flashy forwards of any nations. Does it mean they will be best? No. When it comes down to best players playing the game in Olympics it will be about teams, coaches and lastly individuals. At least if you are comparing lets say Finland and Russia. If it would be only about individual skills, then Canada&Russia(and occasionally some other nation) would be all the time in finals.
So it will be down to coach(and of course players as well) to play as team. If Russia can do it, they will have great chance to make it to finals and even to gold. Clearly D-core isn't too good, with Markov being only top D in both ends and Gonchar being v.good offensive D(at least now, hard to say what about in 2010) and rest not being so great(at least not now). But it's still good enough if they will play as team well, etc.
I wouldn't bet atm for Russia winning, but I wouldn't bet against them either(at least not without good odds).
What do you mean we'll "most likely" have the flashiest forwards? We always have the most skillful and creative players. This has been the case since we've started to play hockey.

Well it's 2years away, anything can happen you know? Lets say Ovechkin/Malkin/Kovalchuk will have injury and Canada will have some support for Crosby. Or some young superstar(from what ever nation) will come and storm hockey world. And I wouldn't say Russia have always had most skillfull and creative players. Very often, but not always. It's 2 years away, so it's impossible to say yet anything 100% about 2010.
