NYR and CLB

To Rangers
R.J. Umberger
Rostislav Klesla

To Blue Jackets
Scott Gomez

Rangers get rid of a big contract and get 2 decent players back. Blue Jackets get a top center to play with Nash. Let me know what you guys think.

Many Jackets fans have been pining for a true 1st line center for a while now, and frankly that's not a huge price to pay for one -- even if he's overpaid himself.

I'm interested to hear what Jackets fans think of this, though I assume Rangers fans will say it's too little coming back for Gomez.

If we couldn't get another center such as a Brad Richards I'd do this in a second. This proposal has 0 chance of happening though because I don't think Howson has any plans of letting go of Umberger.

That's fine, we don't really need Umberger, anyway. Maybe Modin instead?

Modin, Klesla, and a 2nd for Gomez?

I like Tollefsen a lot, too.

I pass big time on this as a Ranger fan.
Gomez isn't the greatest thing but too many of my fellow Ranger fans are in panic mode at the moment.

not in Panic mode....

but I look at it this way.

1. we get rid of an albatross contract
2. We get some needed size up the middle.
3. We get another good dman that we need.
4. Gomez doesn't mesh well w/ this team at all
5. Umberger is young and has shown he could be a good player.

Modin, Klesla, 09-third.

Blue Jacket fan that would do this. Doubt Howson would, though.

Player for player, I'm not sure how equal the value is, but that Gomez contract stings a little...

In response to each of those:
1. True but I want Redden, Roszival or Drury out before Gomez.
2. We get bigger but worse.
3. True.
4. Nothing on this team meshes well.
5. I am personally not a fan of Umberger and don't think he will provide any offense to this Ranger team.

Who centers the Rangers top line? Gomez is as close as we've got to a #1.

If the Rangers wanted Umberger in their organization, they wouldn't have let him walk away. This guy supposedly caused major problems while he was in Hartford.

Why do you need to "get rid of a contract" right now?

done. This is as good as it can get for a #1 center. Nash-Gomez-Huselius would be a pretty good combo.

When did Umberger play for Hartford? I just looked up his career on hockeydb to make sure, and it says he never did.

We acquired his rights in 04 from the Canucks in exchange for Marty Rucinsky. He never technically played because of a contract dispute.

Somebody call up Glen Sather. If he asks why, tell him you heard Petr Forsberg wants to play in New York.

I like Gomez, but that contract is a little much. Small market team, frugal type ownership, etc...That second rounder is a lot more important to a team like Columbus.

How about Modin/Klesla/Adam Pineault?

Hell of a 1st post, OP. this is one of the better TP's Ive seen on here in awhile, and I'd do it from the Rangers side. Something HAS to be done to get the team away from the cap ceiling... I like Gomer, but.........

Come on, man. Even with the second rounder, you guys still get easily the best player in the trade. No one wants Adam Pineault. You're breaking the first rule of trade proposals, trying to unload your team's crap on someone else. We're not trying to stuff Prucha into this proposal, are we?

Dude, changing the 3rd to a 2nd isn't a bad price to pay for Gomez. Especially with Brassard out now, I'm desperate for some skill down the middle. And come on, how many second rounders have actually turned out for us? Hell we've gotten better players in the 3rd round (see Steve Mason).

This could also allow us to bring up Filatov once he's done with the WJC to fill the gap tha Modin left. I think this deal could greatly benefit us.
