Dan Fritsche for Jim Vandermeer and a pick? If you consider 2.3 million cheap...

Kukkonen or Alberts might become available at some point in the near future. Won't cost much

5th-6th pairing? Shoot, you can have Tomas Mojzis, he's like 9th on the Wild's depth chart. That's the 5th pairing, right?

By looking at the trade board the past 2 or so weeks I can come to the conclusion that the Rangers need everything.

Amazingly, yes. $2.3 mil for the next three years. He's still no Jeff Finger.

As for the OP...most solid #5/#6 defenseman make around that. Even Doug Murray, for instance, makes $2.5 mil. So I'm not sure if there are many "cheap" ones on the market.

5th or 6th pair? How deep is the Rangers roster?

I guess the Flyers can offer you guys Alberts and Kukkonen but I'm not sure what the Rangers have that the Flyers want except maybe some draft picks, and they are probably not going to fetch anything above 5th round.

That's kinda what I had in mind. We don't have to give up too much and in return just give us someone to replace Kalinin and have some depth in case of injury. I doubt the Flyers do us any favors tho. We will probally run into you guys in the P/O's

Then why did you not pick up Lundin when he was on waivers?

Garfinkle has no clue. They can replace Kalinin with Potter any time they want. What the Rangers need is a consistent scoring wing with some size. It's freakin obvious.

I still don't think Potter is NHL ready. I would rather leave him in Hartford. That being said, I want to find a cheap defensemen that the Rangers can grab without giving up anything valuable. Obviously the Rangers need a scoring winger but so far nobody on this board at least has been able to think of any decent proposal for one so I was not going to try.

Kukkonen was the first player that came to mind for me as well. He's really cheap too (less than a million salary). He doesn't do much offensively, but he's pretty sound defensively and he blocks a ton of shots.

The Flyers have to move defensemen out of here to get Briere back into the lineup. Kukkonen certainly won't be the difference between winning the Cup and not winning the Cup and it could be a trade to benefit both teams. It actually helps the Flyers as much as it helps the Rangers.

HaHa, nahhh in reality all they need is a top 6 winger..........I say all but that is huge for this team

as for the back end D men that is so they can save money for that winger.............dealing Kalinin's salary and getting a cheap Dman backis what they would want...........they also have too many forwards and Prucha never freaking plays so move him already and clear salary

There will be alot of waiver Dmen before the deadline too

I think that potter should already be in and we should get rid of Kalinin. I mean he really cant be any worse and I think he would probably be an upgrade. The problem is if someone gets hurt then what do we do.

Again, we have too many buffoon fans like Garfinkle who think defenseman need to be flawless every game. It's not realistic. When your team can't score and you have to try and win games 2-1 all the time, a lot of fans get REAL STUPID and blame the defenseman every time they have a turnover. All the Rangers problems are about offense, especially on the PP.

Well excluding any buffoonery, what would it take to get Voros for Mark Eaton?

The Rangers need a lot more than a 5th-6th D-man. They are a play-off caliber team, which is not not good enough to make a legitimate run at the cup and lacks the cap room to manuever. With the salary cap flat for next year and then in decline, the Rangers are going to be haunted for years to come by the fat contracts they handed out to the likes of Drury, Gomez, Redden and Rosival.
