-Vokoun is 3-0-1 with a 0.96 GAA in his last four starts for Florida, which has won eight of 11.
-Lightning are 1-6 in their last seven at the BAC

Have to watch it again because it is a GREAT video!

PB1300s Official Game Preview

There are articles out in the past couple of days, saying that the day after Christmas is the new "Black Friday!" Well, it might seem that the Panthers got quite the deal here, a 2-for-1 special on Tampa Bay Lightnings (in the clearance section BTW if anyone wants one), but looks can always be deceiving. Dont expect to win either game, but if we come out and play we have the past few weeks, we could be OK. Move over Ringling. Bros., Len Barrie and the Tampa Bay Lightning will be performing at a city near you.

GO CATS GOOOOOO!!!

P.S. must apologize for the late GDT...I didnt get home until 6am this morning, and prior to that, there was A LOT of tequila, whiskey, and vodka involved! Happy Holidays EVERYONE!

More interesting tidbits:
If by some miracle the Panthers bring their 'A' game and win tonight, they'll be at true .500 at the latest point in the season since probably 1999-00. They currently are at 16-13-4, but since the '4' are no longer ties, but rather OT/SO losses, the win tonight would put them at 17-17.

Interesting note on the "all offense"/"all defense" debate between the Lightnings' and Panthers' strategies this season. The Panthers have the third worst offense in the East with just 82 goals scored. However, they have the second best defense in the East, with just 85 goals against. Only New Jersey's 84 tops that, and the next best team is Ottawa with 89 goals against and one less game played. The Devils have also played one less game. The Panthers have also allowed the fourth fewest goals in the league.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is one of the two teams scoring fewer goals than Florida, with just 74 tallies in the same number of games as the Panthers (Ottawa's the other one). They're middle of the pack defensively, with the 8th worst/8th best defense, depending upon how you choose to look at it. They've allowed 101 goals.

3-2 lightning, definitely a game that would be lost in the past, so I am going with the odds here.

Nah, Panthers, 3-1. Gotta believe.

Above all I would like to see the same work ethic and speed. I don't want to see a post-Christmas letdown. I think the Panthers will come out flying (boy, do I hope so).

Honestly if we're on tonight this game will get ugly. We're playing like a top 5 team in the NHL. Stop doubting ourselves here, we're 9-2-3 in our last 14 games!

Whereas it might be the best move if you think Vokoun is likely to be a let down tonight (and I've no opinion one way or the other on that), it wouldn't be good for goalie morale. Anderson got all those consecutive starts because he was the "hot hand" and DeBoer said he was riding the hot goalie. How's Vokoun going to take it if he posts back-to-back shutouts, then doesn't get the next start despite the games being 72 hours apart and both at home?

You can say "he's a professional" all you like, but he's also human. You can't have a double standard as a coach if you want your players to respect you and play their hardest. Tomas has to start tonight.

I'm not expecting to see the panthers playing like a top 5 teams tonight, not against a team like Tampa

I hope I'm wrong though, because we MUST win both matchs against Tampa this week-end.

Agreed. These are games we can win, but Tampa will have some confidence after that win in Pittsburgh. We have to play hard tonight. Come out flying in the first to set the tempo for the home-and-home. If we stick to the game plan we will win.

I think itīs best to let Anderson start tonight. Vokoun is not a ***** (he has played better after Anderson get the starter role).

After back-to-back shutouts there is no logical reason as to why PDB shouldn't start Vokoun. If he gives up a few goals, Andy's in tomorrow, if he keeps his A game going, we'll see how tired he is tomorrow and decide if he should play.

T-Vo will start because PDB says he will ride the hot hand, and he seems like a guy who is true to his word.

Why does "Anderson need to start tonight?" You dont sit a goaltender who has had two shutouts in a row, and has had two days of rest as well. And IM SURE 30 out of the 30 NHL coaches would agree on that! Vokoun plays tonight, and if he gives up ONE goal, Andy gets the start tomorrow. But if he gets another shutout, he gets the start again tomorrow. Try again.

i think andy will get the start tomorrow anyhow. even though there isn't much travel, when you have 2 guys playing this well, you want to keep them both hot. vokie deserved to play tonight, though. i don't think you can sit him after 2 consecutive shutouts. otoh, playing him both nights when andy really hasn't had a big letdown (we don't need to get back into the vancouver debate again...) doesn't make sense. maybe if vokie still has the SO streak going but... he can continue that next week. i think i'd rather keep him fresh.

meanwhile, i think this poster is just trying to poke a hornet's net here.

I thought I read in GR's blog that TiVo goes tonight and Andy tomorrow??? What difference does it really make unless you want to give TiVo 1 more night off.

You said there's a logical reason - this counts as a speculative reason based purely on emotional reasoning. You feel Vokoun will do better if Andy gets the start. Well, you can't do better than perfect, which Tomas has been for two games now. He has to have a chance to be imperfect before trying things to make him better.

There is a logical reason why Andy should start tonight, but the logic he starts tomorrow is even better.
