"Hello Canada and hockey fans from the United States and Newfoundland!"
Mats Sundin, now a Vancouver Canuck, is set to face off against his long-time team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sundin thought he had a better chance to win the cup with Vancouver, was he right? Will the Canucks give Sundin the cup he so rightfully deserves? Or will the Leafs prove to Sundin that loyalty pays off.
Speaking of Cupless vets, Glen Murray of Toronto is looking for a Stanley Cup aswell.
Vancouver looks to avenge their 1994 loss in the Cup Finals while Toronto is looking to break their 40-year cup drought
11:35 - Bob Cole: "Kalinin brings the puck out of the Toronto zone, makes the stretch pass for Murray - intercepted by Kesler! Kesler gets around Kalinin, mvoes in on Toskala and SCOOOOOOOORES!"
Ron: 1-0 Vancouver after 20 minutes. I'm here with, of course, Donald S. Cherry
Don: *shakes head* Toronto better win, I tell ya. Mats Sundin turns his back on Toronto and wouldn't it be something if Toronto could beat Sundin tonight? His decision could be one of the stupidest things any hockey player has ever done
Ron: Well, obviously he didn't think Toronto would have a chance...
Don: Well, I said at the beginning of the season to watch out for Toronto. See how I'm right as usual? I said that they have something to prove now that their leader has turned his back on them. You know, back in my day when I was coaching the Bruins, our guys would never leave Boston. They loved it and they spent their careers in Boston!
Ron: Well, you wanna talk about Kesler's goal?
Don: *gives Ron a confused look* What? You aren't supposed to ask me that, but since it's out there...here's Ryan Kesler - look at this guy. He takes the puck all by himself, gives Kalinin the how's-she-going and puts it past Toskala. Good Canadian boy, played for so-and-so junior team. I saw him when he was just 15 years old and I said to the guy next to me "See that kid over there? He'll make the NHL"
Ron: 3 minutes, Don
Don: Alright, Roberto Luongo is a good goalie. Kids, watch this guy. Look at that save on Stajan. Beauty! Reminds me of Wayne Cashman, that kid does.
Ron: Donald S. Cherry on Coach's Corner. We'll get you back to Vancouver right after this
Don: *thumbs up*
25:36 - Bob Cole: "Here comes Daniel Sedin, with Mats Sedin...Sundin I should say! Sedin to Sedin...SCOOOORES! You knew it was coming, you just knew that Mats Sundin would score tonight!"
34:28 - Bob Cole: "The Canucks get set up in Toronto's zone. Here's Sedin - Henrik this time - with the puck. He passes it down low to Pyatt. Pyatt tries to jam it in, now here comes Sundin...SCORES! Sundin again! This man has something to prove, folks! The way the fans are cheering for him, you'd think he's been a Canuck for his entire career."
36:20 - Bob Cole: "Here's Sundin, looking for a hat-trick. He decides to pass it off to another former Leaf, Kyle Wellwood. Wellwood gets it in front to Henrik Sedin...SCOOORES! Henrik Sedin from Mats Sundin and Toronto needs a miracle! 4-0 Vancouver!"
PJ Stock: Does anyone watch this show?
43:21 - Bob Cole: "Look at Antropov, he's so strong on the puck. He backhands the puck to Murray...SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES!!! Glen Murray! The Leafs are on the board, but is it too late?"
43:54 - Bob Cole: "The Leafs have just made it 4-1 now as Pyatt gets the puck from the faceoff, he passes it up to Mats Sundin who has a 3-point night so far. Sundin waits, finds Wellwood who SCORES! Kyle Wellwood from Mats Sundin who now has 4 points! I think it's over, folks!"
59:10 - Bob Cole: "10 seconds left. The only thing that could make this moment sweeter is if Trevor Linden was sitting on the Vancouver bench! Listen to the crowd! The Stanley Cup is finally coming to Vancouver as the Canucks win the Stanley Cup!"
After the Game
Ron: Ron McLean and Don Cherry here to talk about the game
Don: Listen, you can't expect to win the game if you only take 16 shots. 16 shots by Toronto and 40 shots by Vancouver. There's no way that Roberto Luongo is letting in 5 goals on 16 shots! Absolutely no way!
Ron: Wanna talk about Sundin?
Don: Not really...hey, I guess he deserves it. He had a good game. 4 points, he earned it. I'm done now
Ron: Have a good offseason, hockey fans. We'll see you at the NHL Awards Ceremony
