as much as I dislike spezza. For no tangible reason.....I dont see why they wouldnt pony up alfredsson over spezza.

If I were ottawa i would offer vancouver team sweden for edler and pyatt or something.

Since I'm bored how about a three team trade
Ottawa- Toskala, Regehr
Calgary - Spezza, Poni
Toronto- Cammy, Auld , Schubert or a mid level pick.

Because he's much better, our extremely loyal captain, our record without him is beyond abysmal, and he's a Senator for life?

Further update from my sources: Massive Spezza will play tonite, as a precaution that the trade may not take place until a later date. Says a source: "While E is usually right on the money, we can't take the chance this etrade will fall through the cracks in the ice due to the massive talent".

Spezza is not needed on Calgary.

And at the cost of Regehr?

Big pass.

If Sutter trades Regehr's contract he should be fired on the spot... unless by some miracle he is getting back another player with equally as good of a contract... and lets be honest here Regehr at 4.02 million per year is one of the best deals in the NHL right now

Flames fans won't trade a 28 yo stay at home d-man who puts up 20 points per year for a no 1 C scoring 80-90 points per year who is 3 years younger...that's laughable

Well it just doesnt make sense from a Flames POV. They already have Iginla, Phaneuf, Kipper with big ticket contracts, they cant add another in Spezza and still be able to fill out there roster with quality players.

I'm still waiting for that "as good as done" deal between Montreal and Minnesota which was to transpire midnight Dec 16

I see how this works now...everytime Ottawa plays a team, Eklund reports that that team is close to landing Spezza!
So they play Vancouver tomorrow, and he's already laid the groundwork for that deal with Bieksa...stay tunes for another 'Eklund Major Announcement' involving Spezza-Vancouver.
I'm calling it right now:

Spezza
Vermette

for

Bieksa, and....wait for it...
Sundin!

This from a source in California who informed me of the following just now after meeting with his sources over lunch today.
Ever play that game "Telephone" as a kid? That's what's going on here.

Source A: "I had egg salad for lunch."

Source B: "I hear Spezza likes egg salad."

Eklund: "Spezza to Calgary for egg salad?"

Phillips at 3.5 is a better deal and makes this deal even more ridiculous.

The Sens need a puck Moving Dman, not a Stay at home Dman.

It appears the story should have been:

Massive Spezza Meal Being Worked Off - turns out Spezza had a bit too much to eat, and it wasn't egg salad (however the eggnog was great)

Phillips is one of the few deals I rank on par with the Regehr deal... The 2 are both great defensive defensemen signed to massive hometown discounts

So basically Phillips for Regehr is a useless trade?

let me be a little more clear... 1) we can afford to trade one of our best contracts for one that is $3 million per year higher... 2) without Regehr we have no one who can stabilize our backend... 3) without Regehr our penalty kill go down the toilet... 4) Regehr is an integral part of the Flames dressing room

on the other hand... without Spezza... 1) the Flames still have the likes of Iginla, Cammalleri, Bertuzzi, Langkow and Phaneuf... 2) the Flames are still top 10 in goals per game...

Flames fans are not saying the value isn't there because Spezza easily has more trade value than Regehr... but Regehr has more value to the Flames and their success than Spezza would
