Sergei Fedorov or Mats Sundin

I was having an argument with a friend of mine the other day. Just wanted to see what the HF majority thought. Sundin or Fedorov?

I might take a current Sundin over a current Fedorov, but it's close. As for the poll question, Fedorov all the way.

I think I'm going to be in the minority here but if I could have 15 years of Fedorov or 15 years of Sundin, I'd take Sundin. A star no matter what, no matter what he had to work with. Less playoff success, but he was always the go-to guy and, post-Nords, never had anyone to take any pressure off him like Fedorov had. Fedorov was better during his (short) peak though.

The only advantage that Sundin's resume has is the '06 Olympic gold.

Three Stanley Cups, a Hart/Pearson, 2 Selkes go a long way in making up for it.

Peak? Fedorov easily.

Consistency? Sundin easily.

Who had the better career? Fedorov accomplished enough during his peak to push it towards him, but he largely has Yzerman, Lidstrom, and Co. to thank for ensuring that.

If Fedorov had to deal with Jonus Hoglund as his primary winger at his peak, I don't think he would have fared much better than Mats did.

If If If... all we know is what did happen. You compare the two careers and Feds by far has the best resume.

blah blah blah

If Fedorov was on the Leafs he gets more playing time and doesnt have to play defensively and Puts up even bigger numbers.

Fedorov was the best player in the league during his Prime. Sundin was never top 5 in ANY of his years.

Fedorov hands down, twice on sundays, and even 4 times on a mysterious 8th day you reach when you're on a drunken stooper.

Federov was so dominant for a few years I'd be hard pressed to take Sundin. So I won't.

Federov.

I love these guys saying Feds won b/c of Yzerman and Lidstrom, while totally ignoring the fact that he's one of the very very very few players to post 4 straight 20+ point playoff seasons. Yeah, he wasn't one of the main reasons they won those Cups at all. In his 3 Cups with Detroit he was 2nd/1st/5th in goals, 1st/5th/2nd in assists, and 1st/2nd/2nd in points on the team. He was the runaway Conn Smythe choice going into the 1995 Finals had the Wings won and his 24 points was 6 ahead of anyone else on the team. When the Devils shut him down in the Finals, nobody else on the team could pick up the slack - quite simply Fedorov was carrying the Wings there (Yzerman only had 12 points, most for any forward not on Fedorov's line). He has 168 points in 169 career playoff games (Sundin has an underwhelming 74 points in 83 games).

Fedorov was never along for the ride or carried by his teammates to a Cup. He was one the guys doing the heavy lifting.

Who knows what Sundin will look like after missing half a season, but he's clearly been the better of the two over the last 5+ years. Sergei has topped 70 points once in the last 13 years. Fedorov was a monster in the 90's though, definitely better than Sundin ever was.

Sundin's only 12 points back of Fedorov this season, it'll be interesting to see who ends up with more...

They're both great players and you can rely on them to do well for your team; yet, I voted for Fedorov because he's had a much more efficient career than Sundin. That's not to take any credit from Sundin with his consistency, though.
