the only reason why some flyers fans want to get out of briere's contract is because of other sizable salaries on the team (richards, carter, timonen, hartnell, lupul, etc.). if the flyers were missing one of richards/carter, i don't think anyone would be scoffing at briere's hit, which is reasonable for his kind of player.

Hecht is as injury-prone as it gets? Despite the Broken Jochen nickname, he's played 241 games since the lockout. Briere has played 217.

Absolutely, the only real problem is if the cap goes down.

Pre-lock out? I remember quite a few injuries with the name Hecht involved.

still an average of about 66 games a season. that's about on the edge of the "injury-prone" territory. i won't take a position since i don't know anything about this player, but based on the numbers you gave, that's a pretty close call.
