You might want to double check your math. The Flames would have 71 points, not 69.

Having Vancouver second in the conference and the Avs at fourth does look good to me.

If there was no OT loss point teams would play differently in overtime. There wouldn't be nearless as much "go-for broke" attitude.

Teams would lose the point for an OT loss, but then teams that got wins in OT, wouldn't have nearly as many wins either.

The point for an OT loss is the reason why OT is so exciting, not because they play 4-on-4.

Of course.. this is just an idea of how it MIGHT look.

Since we are loosely on the subject, here is how the standings look based soley on conference play. I think that is what should be used to determine playoff seeding and contention.

1 Ottawa 67
2 Philadelphia 66
3 Tampa Bay 64
4 Toronto 62
5 Boston 60
6 New Jersey 60
7 Montreal 59
8 NY Islanders 58
9 Florida 53
10 Buffalo 47
11 Carolina 45
12 NY Rangers 44
13 Atlanta 43
14 Washington 41
15 Pittsburgh 24

1 Detroit 67
2 Colorado 64
3 San Jose 62
4 Dallas 62
5 Vancouver 60
6 Nashville 56
7 Calgary 53
8 Los Angeles 53
9 St. Louis 51
10 Edmonton 49
11 Anaheim 49
12 Phoenix 45
13 Chicago 43
14 Minnesota 41
15 Columbus 40

Here is what the standings would look like if it was based on wins alone, another thing I think they should do to encourage a win-first mindset in the league, rather than just a don't lose mindset.

1 Tampa Bay 37
2 Toronto 37
3 Ottawa 35
4 Philadelphia 34
5 New Jersey 34
6 Montreal 34
7 Boston 32
8 NY Islanders 30
9 Buffalo 29
10 Atlanta 27
11 Florida 24
12 NY Rangers 23
13 Carolina 20
14 Washington 20
15 Pittsburgh 13

1 Detroit 38
2 Vancouver 35
3 Colorado 33
4 San Jose 33
5 Dallas 33
6 Nashville 33
7 Calgary 33
8 St. Louis 29
9 Edmonton 27
10 Los Angeles 25
11 Anaheim 24
12 Minnesota 21
13 Phoenix 20
14 Columbus 20
15 Chicago 18
