Game 36: New Year's Eve vs New Jersey

Should old Langenbrunner be forgot, and never brought to mind?

Best of luck! Your Stars have been playing well as of late. Should be a good game. Here is the Devils lineup for tonight....

Zach Parise - Travis Zajac - Jamie Langenbrunner
Patrik Elias - Dainius Zubrus - Brian Gionta
Brian Rolston - Bobby Holik - David Clarkson
Jay Pandolfo - John Madden - Mike Rupp

Johnny Oduya - Paul Martin
Bryce Salvador - Jay Leach
Andy Greene - Mike Mottau

I'm not sure who will start between Scott Clemmensen and Kevin Weekes ..

Injuries:
Colin White (upper body, day-to-day)
Martin Brodeur (torn biceps tendon...out until at least February)

I wonder if Ott goes to the 4th line when Lundqvist and Brunnstrom are ready to go?

I base that on two things:

1) Tippett likes creating pairs.

2) The PK pairs, when guys are healthy, are more often than not linemates.

The last 2 games, Tippett has used:

PK1
Modano-Lehtinen

PK2
Richards-Eriksson

PK3
Sutherby-Ott

Anyway, I was just wondering. I guess that would mean Petersen had also played himself into a Top 9 role.

Lundqvist-Richards-Eriksson
Neal-Modano-Lehtinen
Petersen-Ribeiro-Brunnstrom
Ott-Sutherby-Wilson/Barch

Ivan Vishnevskiy will play his first game as a Star tonight!!!

I wonder what the pairs will be. Hutchinson deserves to play over Sydor, but I think that is a pipe dream.

Daley-Robidas
Grossman-Niskanen
Vishnevskiy-Sydor/Hutchinson

I know I said Fistric should be the guy called up, but I'm so excited to get to see Vishnevskiy.

Are you looking at the same lineup I am? I'm going to be happy if we don't get blown out. Ugly is the only way to describe this defense, especially if Grossman is the guy out.

No Brunnstrom, Lundqvist, or Grossman. It will not be pretty if this is true for any length of time. Turco is also due for one of his 5 goal, .880 save percentage games. Fun.

You should copy and paste that quote into a text file and just keep pasting into every single comment you make on these boards. Better, yet, just make it your signature and don't bother typing in anything else.

I'm sorry if my post seems debbie downer to you but I'm realistic. When, if, this team gets healthy I'll be much more optimistic about it but the truth is this is not as good a team as New Jersey. Not to mention that I don't think this team has beaten the Devils since 2000. They're better than us. I won't sugarcoat that.

Were Marty doing his Mike Smith impersonation I'd also feel better but even though his numbers against have improved I don't think his overall play is up to his usual standards.

I'm a fan. I'll TIVO this game and watch it in the morning. No matter how good or bad they play I'll be here but I refuse to type anything other than how I feel about this team. They're not good this year. That's they way it goes sometimes, especially when injuries hit.

If you think it's realistic that you'd be happy with anything other than a blowout, then that's something I would agree with, at least with my limited knowledge of what makes you tick. Who else could ascertain what makes you happy?

You write the exact same idea in every single one of your comments on this board when it comes to the Stars chances. You could save yourself quite a bit of time if you just copy and pasted what you've already written. It's silly to do otherwise, just as it's silly for anyone to think your opinion upon the team has changed or hinges on health when this is the healthiest the Stars have been in quite some time.

There's no joy to be derived from a 4-2 loss, tonight. I won't be jumping up and down, doing a dance in my living room. I guess I made a poor word choice because you are running away with the idea that the Stars meeting my expectations (ie, losing tonight) will make a great new year for me.

Actually against Anaheim was as healthy as they've been. And yes health does have a great deal to do with expectations. I imagine if you wonder over to the St. Louis boards they'll tell you they had much higher hopes for their team before all of their injuries. I had high hopes for this Dallas team at the beginning of the season. I never expected them to struggle as they have. That being said here's where they are and I can only judge what I've seen on the ice. And what they've shown so far this year is far more bad than good. If pointing that out offends you or makes me a one trick pony as a poster you've obviously not seen all I write.

This team has several bright spots. The turn in Niskanen's level of play is just the latest. Regardless though, I'm not going to get out my pom poms and be excited to fight and claw for 9th place in the Western Conference. I don't think that's good for the Stars long term future. I'd rather they play the kids (bring up Fistric, stratch Sydor) and Sawada to see who can handle the NHL and whether the Stars want to keep them or make plans for someone else this off season.

Besides a kid like Jaime Benn has done far more to excite me this year than anyone not named, Eriksson, Daley, Neal, and Brunnstrom. Thinking about the brighter future helps make this forgettable season pass by much easier.

Scott Clemmensen to start for the Devils tonight as they continue to play without Brodeur.

He's an 8th round pick from '97 with a .923 SV% over 19 starts this year.

oh man.. I hope Vishnevski has an amazing debut remember last year when Mark Fistric got called up about this time? nobody thought he was ready but he rose to the challange and grabbed a spot on the line for the rest of the season. I know Vishnevski may not be the most solid guy in his own end, but remember that's what they said about Andrew Hutchinson - and he's been as solid as anyone could want.

GO STARS GO! get that win!

Not really. He did play better than anyone expected but his stay with the Stars was because of injuries. He was the first scratch when Zubov and Boucher were healthy.

He played great, but I bet the Stars would have rather had him in the AHL.

The official game day roster says he is a healthy scratch.

Vishnevskiy said in his blog that he would be in. I guess not.
