Not bad, but I'm fairly certain NJD would say, no thanks.

I wouldn't do it if I was NJ. Zajac is a budding player and Kuba's got a little too much fat on that contract.

Thats terrible, Kuba is UFA and old, Zajac is a young player who is finally showing promise, not even close.

Too bad. Zajac would look good in Ottawa, especially with this proposal!

If they are trading Zajac, a premier young defensemen would have to be the mark.

eg: Zajac/Clarkson/1st. for Phaneuf or Weber.

We lose Zajac and then we don't have any more centers.

Kuba is good... but I think his good stats this year are partially a result of PPs (12) with that top-line.

He's not the Dman I'd want to go after.

I like Kuba but to give up Zajac for Kuba alone is an overpayment.

Take it as the bones of a trade, add a little bit more meat I guess. Both players would be great fits. Zajac is an RFA next year and NJ has about 40 million already commited, with the cap potentially coming down it might be hard to keep Zajac when New Jersey needs to fill 7 roster spots for next year with only around 14-16 million. Kuba is a UFA next year so can be let go or resigned if he fits in exceptionally well. He is cheap now thus leaving room for a deal at the deadline when Brodeur returns and the Devils begin ascending the standings.

Zajac is a RFA and would be qualified and Lou would make room by not signing Holik, Gionta, Weekes, Clemmenson and Oduya before losing Zajac. Not to mention, trading contracts.

Again, I can see Zajac being dealt for a Weber or Phaneuf. But since that's not happening, either is a deal like this.

Rupp
Brookbank
Fraser for Kuba

Lou managed to sign Zach Parise to a contract worth a $3.125 cap hit over four years that ends with him a RFA. I'm not worried about retaining the lesser of the wondertwins.

Do you guys honestly think you can get Phaneuf or Weber for Zajac and a 1st?

No, we said we wouldn't be dealing Zajac except in a deal for a big defenseman. There's a difference.

Nope, but I also used the example that I could see Zajac being part of a package that would get them if they were available. That's why I wrote the following as well:

Again, I can see Zajac being dealt for a Weber or Phaneuf. But since that's not happening, either is a deal like this.

Zajac was rumored to have been offered along with Gionta and a 1st. for Hossa by Lou. I think for the right player, certain players will be dealt. Not for a pending UFA.

I can't see a playoff team giving up a roster player for Kuba, especially one the quality of Zajac - wouldn't make sense. New Jersey has a few winger prospects which Ottawa would be interested in if a Kuba swap were to take place.

I can't see NJD doing this -- we'd have to add something.

To the Devils fans: what would it reasonably take to tip the scales? Keep in mind that there's no reason for the Sens to want guys like Rupp and Brookbank.

The devil's blue line is strong enough as it is, even though as a sens fan i'd like to see this fall through

Kuba would be an upgrade over the bottom third of the defense. Considering that Mottau and Leach are getting large minutes.
