Kudos to Richards - Man the guy is Gold. If Hodgson can be close to Richards I'll be happy. BXSA's hit deserved retaliation whether clean or not and Richards jumps in on tough fighter without a second thought.
Canucks were determined to avenge the mugging they got last season and Gagne was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hope he's not hurt too bad.
I doubt that hit had anything to do with Boulerice/Kesler last year.
You'd think Kesler never scored before - guy celebrated like he won the game with that goal jumping into the glass like he's Ovechkin or something. What a ******.

Simon Gagne gave the following update on his condition following the Flyers' 3-2 win in Vancouver on Tuesday night. He was asked if he would be able to play in the team's next game, on Friday night in Anaheim.
"We will see," he said. "Hopefully tomorrow it will be a little bit better. Jimmy [McCrossin] and the doctor think that it may be somthing that gets better every day. Right now it is a little bit sore. I think tomorrow it should feel a little bit better. We will see what is going to happen for the next couple of days."

Flyers left wing Simon Gagne suffered an upper body injury seconds after the opening faceoff in Philadelphia's game at Vancouver. He was checked into the boards by Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa, and will not return to the game.
In 35 games this season, Gagne has 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points and 16 penalty minutes. He is second on the team in scoring, and tied for 10th in the league.
This almost certainly means we'll need to clear cap space for when Briere comes back. I'm betting he tweaked his rotator cuff... I was hit in a similar way when I hurt mine putting my arm out to break my fall. I had a partial tear, it screwed me over as far as stickhandling goes for about 2 weeks before I was alright to do it again... and Gagne looked a lot worse than I did getting up.

He just brought his team within one goal of the hockey game. You wouldn't be happy too?
as long as it's not a head injury, i'm going to breath a sigh of relief. shoulder injuries, cheap shots, they happen and a team like the flyers is never going to see the benefit of a kind referee. hopefully gagne takes his time coming back. my new philosophy is that players should wait and come back at 100%, rather than risk aggravating injuries.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren told CSNPhilly.com Wednesday morning that Gagne will be re-examined in Vancouver mid-afternoon Eastern time before the team heads for Los Angeles.
“It’s nothing serious,” Holmgren said. “His shoulder seized up on him. The two reports from the doctor were right away and after the shoulder settled down and he has a little bit of a strain. The muscles went into spasms which is normal. We’ll know more today how long it will be. We think it is a short term thing, maybe a week.”
Holmgren also told CSNPhilly.com that defenseman Randy Jones is suffering from a mild hip flexor.
“Jones is struggling not with the hip [surgery] but the hip flexor stuff guys get in training camp because they are not used to the pace,” he said. “That what Jones is dealing with right now, more than anything. The surgery was fine but he’s trying to catch up and it’s hard on him.”
