Roenick claims Wings' Babcock disrespects Chelios, Americans

Found an interesting article on Freep.com, and to think I used to like Jeremy Roenick. I dont know where this guys gettin this stuff but it sounds like sour grapes too me, when's he gonna retire. Shouldn't he be more focused on why his Sharkies chocked in the first round AGAIN, instead worrying about Babcock and the Wings. Roedick ain't nothing but a washed up punk, looking for sometime in the spotlight.

Any way here it's:

According to Sharks forward Jeremy Roenick -- who, please remember, was eliminated from the playoffs in round one -- Wings coach Mike Babcock dislikes Americans, and Chris Chelios in particular.

That was what Roenick told Mike North & Dan Jiggetts this morning on “The Monsters in the Morning” show on Comcast Sportsnet in Chicago.

• Roenick, on why Chelios isn’t playing: “The coach just doesn’t like him for some ungodly known reason, I think he’s got a grudge against American players, but he does not like Cheli at all.”

• Roenick, on issues between Chelios and Babcock: “There is an underlying, I don’t know if it’s a hatred, because hatred is a strong word. But there is some underlying issue there that I don’t understand. You know Babcock is the coach. You have to respect him for his decisions on who he plays, and that is all well and good. Sometimes it’s just the verbal stuff that goes back and forth, from what I understand. Cheli will never complain. He is the ultimate professional. He will do whatever the team needs.”

• Roenick, on the treatment of Chelios from Babcock: “If you’d know some of the things that Babcock says to Chris Chelios, it would make your stomach churn. Just total disrespect for not even just one of the best Americans, but one of the best defensemen to ever play the game. The way he is talked to is just unacceptable. I wish I could elaborate, but that’s not proper. It’s just disrespectful.”

I asked Chelios about the comments, and he laughed and laughed.

“How does JR know anything -- is he playing?” Chelios said. “The last time I talked to JR was a few weeks ago, and it was about his charity pool party in Vegas. I don’t know what JR is talking about.”

How would JR know what Babcock do or don't say to Chelios?

Interesting, I doubt Babcock would disrespect Cheli in any way though.

I hope we win this year's Stanley Cup so Babcock can use the "I can't really hear what Jeremy says, because I've got my two Stanley Cup rings plugging my ears." rebuttal.

He hates Americans so much that he plays Brett Lebda, Brian Rafalski and Justin Abdelkader. Then next year he'll play Jimmy Howard.

Exactly, I mean I understand he's got a lot spare time this off-season and all, but what is he hiding out in the locker room or something. U better watch out Wings u might have a stalker.

Babs can't hear Roenick because he has his Stanley Cup ring plugging his ear...

(Roy made that comment towards Roenick originally, right?)

Here's the thing. If I hear the words "Roenick claims", they could be followed by any combination of words in any known language, and I doubt I would be surprised at what they were, considering who uttered them.

Roenick should have chosen his words better. I mean everyone on this board knows Chelios is pissed about being benched. Everyone knew Hasek was pissed about being benched. But frankly neither of them is mad at Babcock for it. The only way the team works is if you subscribe to the best player plays philosophy. I mean we know in reality the Vets get alot of preference but really what do you say to a guy like lebda? You been playing great, your the 6th best defensemen on the team and earned the spot, but im benching you for Chelios cause of his name (i think experience factors into winning the job in the first place).

Chelios is a pro he realizes the only person he can be mad at is himself. If he was playing like the 6th best Dman he'd be in the lineup. Period. Chelios and to a lesser extent Hasek knew that. Its part of the winning philosphy and Chelli will be rewarded with another cup ring and his name on the cup again this year as he absolutely is a part of this team just as much as lebda. Gotta play it fair.

Shouldn't Roenick be more concerned on why the Sharks choked again in the playoffs?

Does Roenick want to be an Amercan version of Don Cherry? Jesus what a crap. Totally moron.

Everybody knows that this year's sucking Cheli isn't even near our lineup, before somebody gets injured.

I find it funny the guy who is playing instead of chelios is Brett Lebda....an American

Babcock doesn't like guys who cant play at a NHL level, that's Chris Chelios.

The only thing that could save Babs is all the grease in his hair.

Yeah, and JR should keep quiet. He's like a 12 year old girl just hearing about that someone perhaps saying something about that other someone, via her imaginary friend Betsy.

If Chelios and Babcock had a problem....Why did Chris resign in Detroit during the offseason? Being in his late 40's, Chelios is lucky he even got a couple games of ice time this playoffs.

not too mention some shifts in the winter classic, when he could have been benched as well

Atleast get your insults correct. We choked in the 1st round for the first time in almost a decade. The 2nd round choke job is the Sharks usual memo.

Well, the insult was mainly aimed at Roenick, I think. I generally like the Sharks, and have a hard time identifying Roenick with that team. He reminds me of those past-their-prime women who still dress like their teenage daughters, and have a face lift every other year.... (a roundabout way of saying he's shallow and removes all doubt of stupidity by speaking)

It's funny how people actually give JR a serious listen from this.

I'm looking at you, Sharks fans.

Or exactly what his contribution is to a hockey team any longer?

Exactly. Babs hates him so much that (w/the exception of this year) he's given a 47 YEAR OLD prime playing time on the best hockey team in the world.
