Mike Richards vs Jeff Carter

Which Centre would you take? both were taken in the 1st round of the 2003 Draft by Phillly.

If you could have just one, who would it be?

Mike "Cannon" Richards
or
Jeff " leading the NHL in goals" Carter

P.S. Does anyone see both making Team Canada next year?

maybe a possible line of Carter - Richards - Gagne

While possible, I don't see it happening. There are too many good centers for Team Canada, as it is some will be playing out of position. Richards has a chance to make it IMO, I just don't see Cater making it.

From my understanding though, he (Carter) can play wing. He is also a very good goal scorer, so I guess anything is possible. But I can't see him making Team Canada over Thornton, Crosby, Getzlaf, Lecavalier. Marc Savard also has an outside chance of making this team... So I guess it comes down to how many natural centers Team Canada wants to take. There is still Eric Staal out there too.

Richards is one of my favorite players in the game. Guy brings it all. As much as Carter is a good player, Mike has all the intangibles, wicked intensity and is incredibly talented to boot.

Carter is the better shooter but Richards is the better all-round player. There are quite a few assets that Cannon brings to the table that Carter just doesn't have (yet), but both are fantastic players and I am glad that both are on my favorite team

I take Carter,I find Richards is extremely overrated, even considered a power forward by some

I'll take Richards, he does it all..

Carter seems to have improved a lot this season though.. From what I saw last season, his shot accuracy was terrible.. His shot was always hard, but he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.. Looks like he has worked on that.. Philly is lucky to have both of them..

Yeah Carter played wing at the WC a couple of years ago

and nobody says Richards is a power forad, he's 5'11, but he still throws big hits and plays with heart every game.

I take Carter, but I'm glad to have both Carter seems to have a bit more upside to me and he's bigger, but Richards brings more grit and leadership.

I'll take Mike Richards. He is great defensively and on the penalty kill. He is also very talented offensively.

Carter is better defensively than Richards.

I would dispute that and evidence for it is that Cannon is on the first PK unit, Carter on the 2nd. They are both very good defensively but Richards is better.

I took Richards, but Carter could very well be better in the long run. There games are so different that it's hard to compare.

As far as the Olympics, I think that both should be there, but probably only 1 (Richards) will be there. If it were up to me, I'd have Carter centering the checking line with Richards on one of the wings and Morrow/Doan on the other. Both are exceptional defensive players and PK'ers, but Carter is better equipped to match up with a guy like Malkin.

Richards is the better PK'er (best in the game, IMO), but that doesn't make him the better defensive player. Carter's speed and strength give him an advantage over Richards in that department, but I'd say that Richards is a more consistent player defensively then Jeff and that gives him the edge...for now.

Mike Richards for me, my fav non-Red Wings player, the guy is a leader and reminds me of Steve Yzerman.

Richards has better vision, is more of a playmaker, and more of a leader.

Carter has the wicked shot, is capable of muscling past defensemen, and is a little less mistake prone.

Defensively, they are both very talented so I'd call it a draw.

Overall I'll take Richards.

I voted for Jeff Carter. Didn't expect the vote to be so lopsided.

That is an extremely flattering thing to say. I would say he's kind of the same mold, and I think it's a decent comparison in nature.

I would take Richards, although I do love Carter.
