News And Notes
Quote:
"It's a tough decision," DeBoer said, noting both will play sometime during this trip, which features back-to-back games against Pittsburgh and Montreal this weekend. The two goalies have combined to allow 13 goals the past three games all losses but DeBoer stressed, "It's not just the goaltending.

"They did a great job for us for five or six weeks," he said. "When they're struggling, it's up to the forwards and the defensemen to give them a break and outplay the other team and we haven't done that for them."
Sun-Sentinel: Help wanted for goalies
Miami Herald: GOALTENDER DECISION
George Richards' Blog, Your Source For Reliable, Early Panthers Info!

Red Hot Cat Of The Night Stephen Weiss, with 4 points in his last 5 games, leads the team in points.

Primary Target

December, a month that has often been the source of strength for the Panthers can be its strongest ever if the Panthers win today. A victory would break the team record for most wins in December and would get them back on the right track after 3 consecutive losses. The Panthers can ill afford to wait until March again.

LET'S GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!

This is a must-win game. Snap the losing streak and get back into the playoff chase.

They're all must win...doesn't mean the Panthers will.

Go Panthers, or something like that...rah rah rah...*sigh*

I hate short seasons.

Oh, and of course I voted for them to win...but I figure it'll actually be the Isles who "get healthy" against the Cats, not the other way around.

Im going back to the not voting scenario, see if that breaks the streak. This is another one of those games which we "should" win, so hopefully they come out, play hard and execute. This will be the first game I miss in a while because while it starts early in the states, it will be 9pm here and I have to go to my friends house for new years eve.

And BTW...even though we are 10+ points behind the Caps, they did do us a favor yesterday, and that was beating Buffalo. So, for as bad as we played the past three games, we are still two points behind the Canes and Sabres, with a game in hand. And there is PLENTY of hockey left this season, so like I said in another thread...believe!

Oh, I know they're all "must-win" But this one has a bit more importance in my own mind given the way they've played in the last three. This is a team they should beat and there's really no excuse not to.

Horton: Buuuuuttt COACH!! If we're in the lead then the other guys might tie it up and send it to overtime...and then I'll miss my train and won't get a good spot in Times Square for the New Year's party!

Unfortunately, it seems as if DeBoer is letting contracts dictate his starting goalie.

Pete DeBoer to Randy Moller about Vokoun: ''You have to go with your money guy.''

........I'm pretty sure he means money as in the guy who has proven in the past that he's a legitimate starter and all-star level goalie. That's a "money player." Nothing against Anderson but Vokoun is your guy.

He doesn't literally mean money. Also, Vokoun played well in the third, Anderson was decent but not good enough. We hold our goaltenders to a high standard since they're both very good. In my opinion, Vokoun deserves to start more than Andy but I don't really care since either goalie is more than adequate if the team gives a solid effort.

C'mon GP, I know you hate anything Martin and you've got this never-ending supply of bile for any goalie making over minimum wage, but PDB has more than shown he's willing to go with the hot hand regardless of contract (to the point of speculation of shopping TVo in the media)..

That can be interpreted several ways, PanthersPride!!! But this team's playoffs hopes ride on Vokoun, an all-star, and we need him to get into a good groove. I love the job Andy's done for us, but the guy has been a perennial backup for a reason. It was smart to ride him while he was on fire, but Vokoun's the guy who needs to be the all-star he's capable of.

I hate that the Isles have won 1 game this month. That never bodes well for us.

Perennial backup means nothing. Goalies develop later and if he is good he is good. We ride Andy when he is hot and the same with Vokoun. We are fortunate to have such a quality duo.

We are fortunate to have them yes. However, when neither is especially hot, we go with the one who has a proven track record, because he is the more likely candidate to do well in the most important games later in the season.

Even if he does mean that, who cares? When both goalies are playing like crap, which one would you go with? You have to go with the guy that earned the fat contract in the belief he'll be the one most likely to rebound...not the guy that has a small contract because the last time he was handed a starter's role for more than 1/4 of the season, he failed miserably.

I like Anderson and the way the team plays in front of him...in short spurts. Long-term I don't think he's a starter.

The commentators mentioned a little while ago that Boynton called out some players for their lack of effort / inconsistencies. So even if Boynton isn't the best defenseman, he is certainly NHL caliber, and he does bring us leadership and emotion that we otherwise lack.
