Dan Boyle an underrated media nugget?

JR gets all the attention on the Sharks for being the guy who will give unconventional answers to journalists. I've noticed, however, that Boyle is pretty entertaining when it comes to quotes/soundbytes/etc. as well. He really had a lot to say about Tampa, and has given more than the commonplace "we just work hard, prepare for every game, don't get ahead of ourselves" approach to the media since arriving in SJ. I understand this might not be the greatest thread topic to catalyze conversation, but I'm just curious to see if anyone else has noticed this? In fact, to make the thread more worthwhile, who do you think are the most interesting Sharks players to read quotes from, aside from the obvious choice of JR?

Douglas Murray

Though more more often than not, he leaves the best quotes for the Swedish press

"I like turtles" - Alexei Semenov (ok, so I don't know if he said it, but I could see him saying it.)

Boucher seems like a guy that would be a little more liberal with his thoughts. JR is obviously #1, but strangely I haven't noticed too much from Boyle other than the Tampa incident.

IMO, Boyle is one of the more academically intelligent Sharks. Academic intelligence (IQ) goes a long way towards making interesting sound bytes for me. It helps if the player doesn't go along with the general constraints advised to players (Yes, they do get training about what to say to the media, starting shortly after being drafted). A former Shark, Preissing, is pretty far along the curve as well and has been known to give some insightful quotes.

Didn't he write a senior thesis on the economic viability of the NHL?

I think it was on the effect of free agency on sports.

Don't know if it's a senior thesis, but he is published. I found it one day while doing some research at the Uni; I have a copy somewhere, but it was quite a technical read.

Hmm. I remember not being able to get through more than a couple pages and most of what I read being Preissing discussing the decrepit state of the Thrashers and Lightning (presumably before the Bolts won a Cup).

As an economics major at Colorado College in 2003, he wrote his 95-page senior thesis on what free agency, expansion "and other variables" meant to the NHL over the previous 60 years.

In July 2005, his paper was combined with the work of three others to produce an article in the Eastern Economic Journal, which came to the conclusion that free agency was insignificant in determining competitive balance in the league.

I think Rob Blake is also another player who can be pretty blunt and give well thought out analysis of the team.

True, he says things like how San Jose has been owning Phoenix the last few years, and that former Phoenix player Sjöstrom (now Rangers) should watch out...

He also told Morozov to watch out before the Sweden - Russia game and we all know what happened to him, because he didn't keep his head up

Yea, he told him to keep his head up or he'll get hurt... I think Morozov denied that though...
He should tell Michalek that.

Murrays reply after the game?

"That's why he doesn't play in the NHL."

I love Murray.

I also heard he was asked by a Swedish reporter if his teammates ever tease him for having zero points - his reply was something to the effect of "No, because they know I would crush them"

I like Murray. I almost put "Chester" on one of my jerseys in honor of his post-game comments.

A lot of folks forget that Douglas Murray went to Cornell (and graduated), which is not exactly a school for the intellectually deficient either.

And lets not forget he's an inventor and business-man too: "Murray also is the co-founder and managing partner of Uber Dispensing Company. The company produces the UberTap, a hands-free three-sprout keg tap invented by Murray and several friends from Cornell University, where Murray graduated with a B.S. in Hotel Administration in 2003. Murray has also rung the bell at the New York Mercantile Exchange in the summer of 2006."

I think my all time favorite is when he was asked what he thought about team Canada's players, and he called Jason Chimera a synonym for a little cat (rhymes with wussy).
