Question about the future winter classic at Yankee Stadium:

Are tickets to the classic included in your STH package as a standard "home game"?

Or, are we only charged for 40 games but have a guarenteed first chance to buy tickets?

Or, do we not get anything?

Bingo.

It hasn't even been announced for Yankee Stadium in 2011.

And you would most certainly not get any type of priority for a ticket being a STH. These would be totally separate. Ask Bruins fans how they went about getting tickets.

I asked the Bruins board just now, and they said it works like this:

Yankee STH have first priority to buy "thier seats" for the game. Following that, Ranger STH are given the chance to buy seats in order of thier tenure. Once all Ranger STH have purchased thier seats, the away team's STH are given a chance to buy seats. Finally, all lottery winners are able to fill in the remaining seats.

So in a short answer, YES, all STH will be able to buy seats for face value

Well thanks for the clarification. This is certainly a surprise to me considering the way this franchise treats its loyal fans.

im a fan of having the winter classic be only original 6 teams. and i guess throw a couple of the more marketable teams in for revenue... thoughts?

Forget the Caps, it should be Rangers Leafs. Neither team has had one yet.

The Winter Classic is kind of unfair. It can only be held in cold climate markets. So does a south team or a west coast not get involved?

There's only a few locations left: New York/New Jersey, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary(is there a place to hold it outdoors?).
These are just a handful of destinations left that have yet to be selected and are cold weather sites. Am I missing any locations? I know about Philly or Pittsburgh but both teams already have or are going to be in one in the case of the Flyers this year.

It should be Rivals. Islanders need exposer and what better way to display Tavares then on one of biggest stages in hockey.

Also I'll be down by the bars by Fenway for this one soaking in the atmosphere, I can't wait.

It wont be because the game needs to draw interest outside of New York.

Not ideal imo.
Plus Citi Field doesn't have that sex appeal that Yankee Stadium has. Although it's a new park.
Also I think demesions when it comes to these ballparks for hockey are pointless cause the rink is set up in the infield not the outfield. And if you're familiar with baseball you know every parks infield is the same size.
I do think though the hockey rink is better suited for football stadiums.
If they had it at the new Giant/Jets stadium-since it's in NJ the Devils would have to be in the game. I think Bettman is more interested in having it in NYC not NJ.

I have to agree with just about everything you have said. The reason I went with Citi over Yankee Stadium was that citi has been sold a s aball park & not a stadium, the fans are alot closer to the action in certain parts of the park than they are at Yankee Stadium which is more or less the same diemensions as the old park although certain parts of the field are shorter like behind home plate which allow the fans to be closer.

Baseball Stadiums can be used for football, Shea was designed just for that, which a hockey setup would be similar, although I don't know how Citi or YS would look set up in that manner.

I liked how the first winter classic looked, it was in a football stadium with 750000 lunitacs in the snow. For that reason alone I would want to have that same experiance & do it at Giant's stadium, but like some one else mentioned Bettman would want it played in NY. So if it has to be in NY than my vote is for Citi-Field.

It won't be the leafs
A) They suck right now ,at least for the time being
B) They wanted US ratings so putting a canadian team dosen't help

Also,it dosen't matter what climate.I was watching the "pre show" for the WC and they head honcho for the whole thing was asked the weather question and answered "our equipment is able to make an ice capable on playing in any surface,we could have a winter classic in florida and it would be fine"

Winter classic in Florida? Now that would be classic! Snow birds at Winterpark? Maybe, Bluehairs by the Bay?

The front of that jersey is okay, but please, God, I hope the back never gets stitched onto another Ranger jersey after this season.

The Rangers and Kings played outdoors in Las Vegas, so it's not all that much of a stretch. It's not like Florida is tropical in the winter. It gets into the 30s and there is a big wind chill factor (or that was my experience living in Orlando/Winter Park for two winters anyway). Ice probably wouldn't be perfect, but I can't imagine it being worse than the regular Garden ice anyway.

the first winter classic with buffalo and pittsburgh i just didn't see why it was those two teams, they are not rivals, in the same division or an original 6 teams. Last years with Chicago and Detroit that made sense original six. this years again boston and philly? that makes no sense, why not boston and montreal or anyone in that same division or boston and nyr because there is a rivalry there, original six, and yanks/sox rivalry...so i'm not even bothering watching it this yr

Yankees STH would have a shot at tickets to the winter classic? I really hope NYR STH would get first crack.

Regarding the Leafs, I read that the league is looking to add a 2nd classic in Canada. I don't have a problem with that. I just hope they don't water down the event by having several of them in the States each Jan 1.

This game would be awesome at Yankees Stadium next year.

Should be Rangers vs Maple Leafs. but they're probably saving ML for that second game in Canada. ML at Rogers Centre? Not an appealing ballpark...
The rumors are Rangers Caps. I guess they want to put Ovechkin on the big stage.
