This.

The resurgence of Original Six markets in Boston and Chicago, San Jose's incredible start, the Winter Classic, Malkin's evolution into the most dominant player in the league through the 1st half of the year, among many others were better and bigger stories than anything else listed.

This is eerily similar to a recent TSN poll.

Wait, no, it's exactly the same.

Ovechkin scoring 65 goals is the best story.

In terms of press attention, at least in Canada, Sundin wins by a landslide.

The best hockey story of 2008 has to be Ovechkin scoring 65 goals.

Way to steal this word for word from the TSN web site.

Sundin Saga, what other story had threads with 1000+ posts. That story was endless.

I really don't get the Sundin thing. What is it that makes that anywhere close to biggest thing? Nothing happened, then he signed. Whopdidoo!

Ovechkin, but Avery not playing in the NHL anymore is pretty awesome too.

Agree with the poster above me, it was just a half a season contract that was ridiculously overpaid, also Sundin is not even in the top 15 forwards of the league.

Unfortunately, because of the way it was handled and blown out of proportion, Avery was the biggest story by far.
