Sure, now what is the relation betwen these two facts???

From the usual source..

Q: Could Shany still shine? Shall we allow him here?

I think not, though, you never know..

There's no room for him. Cap space should be used for a defenseman.

I'll give him a chance.
This team needs leadership and size up front.
Dont know where he could fit, but i think he could be usefull to the teram especially playoffs time.
Higgins, Kovalev, good prospects and draft picks could go for a d-men and maybe a Kovalchuk

Tanguay - Koivu - Pacioretty
Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kostitsyn
Shanahan - Lang - Kovalev

I love the guy and wouldn't mind him on the team.

The problem is the Habs have way too many wingers. If a couple are being shipped for a defenceman, then I'm all for it. Right at this moment it makes no sense.

I can tell you one thing though, Shanny wouldn't be lazy and he wouldn't mind speaking out to players like Kostitsyn last night.

With the salary cap exemptions to Tanguay, Higgins and Dandenault that will kick in late January, we will have up to a minimum of 3,5 mil of free cap space (injuries plus present free cap space). You really think Shanahan will take all that? Even a 5 mil Dman won't take that much space when trade deadline comes. A D at 5 mil will cost us about 2 mil at the deadline. Shanny for an entire season, you could sign him at about 3 mil... for half a season? Probably 1,5. The cap isn't the problem.

I do agree tho that if every player is healthy, there wouldn't be much room. But that's the beauty of having young players. You can send either Daggs or Skost or both in the AHL. At the start of the season, I was totally against getting Shanny, because of room for players and because of the cap, but now, with almost half the season gone, and with injuries freeing cap space, and some players not playing on par to their capabilities, I am not against it anymore.

At the beginning of the year I wouldn't have minded having Shanny on the team but now how effective will he be? He's going to be 40 in January and he hasn't played a game since May.

We should try to steal Dustin Brown from LA.

Brendan can go back to taking the whip from his wife until New York signs him.

It's very simple - we make a deal with Dallas to absorb salary and sign AVERY !!!!!!

How does anyone know how good Shanahan is right now, not to mention that he hasn't played at all this season. That's in addition to the greater need for a Dman (or even a more reliable backup than Halak).

Agreed. I would take him in a second, since it has become apparent that this team could use a leader and a gritty forward. However there is currently no room for him.

with all the injuries and the absence of warriors, i'll give him a chance, if cheap!! 1-1.5M$ ?? it will give room to trade a player or 2 for that #4 d-men.
we need players, we need scorers, we need leaders, we need shany... for cheap !

Excuse me? Higgins, Dandenault and Tanguay's cap hits don't "come off the books," so far as I've ever known. Can you explain what you mean? The LTIR allows a team to exceed the cap by a particular amount, but I'm not sure that applies to signing another player weeks after they got injured.

Can a team trade an injured player? if so why not take the gamble of trading for Gaborik..he won't have the cap hit because he'll be on the IR and he'll probably be back around playoff time...Minnesota won't want to lose him for nothing so why not gamble and trade a pick and a prospect for Gaborik and hope he'll be available come playoff time and then trade for a defenseman like Jay BO (because we'll have the cap space for it - due to all the injuries)...and i believe after the trade deadline u don't have to worry about cap space....and we'll have one heck of a team if Gaborik is healthy for the playoffs and we get Jay Bo

I hope you were kidding about Halak... i hate coming here (HF) after a loss. Sure, Halak had a bad game... who doesn't? Remember when everyone was saying how good Halak was and should be starting somewhere else? I just don't understand how people can jump at players so soon. It wasn't a personal shot at you... it's just frustrating looking at trade this, trade that, get this, get that mentality after a loss. The high expectations seem to drive people crazy... and nothing wrong with expectations, it's just that we need to keep composure... but then again, we are talking about Montreal here
As for Shanny, I wouldn't mind it considering our situation. It would have to be pretty cheap (someone mentioned $1.5). His leadership could be useful on and off the ice and especially come playoff time.
