Gaborik possibly out for the year

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=2616...=topStory_main

According to TSN, Gaborik may opt to have season ending surgery. Does that pretty much squash all Gaborik trade rumours? Or do you think he might be good for the playoffs if he does get traded?

Marian Gaborik.

Ok so I just read he is out 10 weeks which is alot better then the rest of the year..so if that's right he should return a couple weeks after the trade deadline so he should have a little bit of value.

1st rounder?

I heard that too but I'm not sure that's right.

Wasn't Theodore on IR when traded to Avs?

I think it's LTIR, not just regular IR.

They'll still get a 1st round pick and someone else, unless someone gives them a player the Wild really like. But if they think he'll be off IR before the deadline, they won't trade him.

It's only 8 weeks until the deadline though.

IMO, it will be a miracle if he's back before the deadline. His trade value will be nil. Crushing blow to the Wild now and for the future.

And to think, this guy turned down $8M a year for 8 years from the Wild.

Can you say "dumbass?"

agreed. I almost feel bad for him

If I was a team I would still take a chance on him if it was just a 1st or 2nd. he could be teh difference maker some teams need. Its a 1 year rental and would, IMO, be worth it

If he doesn't chose season ending surgery I could still see him getting a decent package. Like Bertuzzi got from the Wings, A good prospect and a conditional pick.

Ales Kotalik, Daniel Paille, 2nd rounder. Conditional 1st in '10 if he resigns?

As a Wild season ticket holder who misses very few games he has played his last game for the organization. They will not/should not allow him to return after the trade deadline to a) improve his stock for UFA status and b) ruin the Wild having a shot at winning the draft lottery.

I would say a 1st rounder would have an excellent chance of landing him and he could pay off at some time in the playoffs?

he'll be injured during the deadline...so he can't be traded...if he could....a 1st would never be in the running...more like a 5th or 6th rounder at best....but yeah...he'll be healing during deadline so there will be no trade

best chance of a trade is for his rights at the draft and that wont be much...

I do. He's shutting it down, getting a surgery he needs, and preserving his career. Not a lot of loyalty to the WIld here, but I'm sure Gabby thinks they don't deserve it.

Minnesota should have traded him the moment Gabby didn't $8 million a year contract.

you guys do know that just because he is hurt doesn't mean he can't be traded. Montreal traded Theodore to Colorado when he was hurt, and Florida traded Bertuzzi to Detroit when he was hurt. If he can return before the playoffs a team would be stupid not to trade something for him if the price is drastically reduced.
