Picking apart plus-minus (in 1973)

Interesting discussion on plus-minus in the Montreal Gazette, early 1973:

I'm assuming they have changed it by now. (2015)

When did people start using Corsi and Fenwick?

Not to adjust for relative strengths of teams (the complaint here).

They haven't, but as you know, others have:

True, although it'd be nice if they had been popularized by now.

The Hockey News used to put team +/- percentages in their early 80s year books.

Marcel Dionne in 1980-81 was +55. He was on ice for 127 of LA's 247 non-PP goals for, or 51.4%. He was on ice for 72 of LA's 209 non-PP goals against, or 34.5%. This made him +16.9%.

Compare Guy Lafleur in 1979-80 to Marcel Dionne in 1980-81

Lafleur +56 GF: 119/269 = 44.2% GA: 63/169 = 37.3% Dif: +6.9%
Dionne +55 GF: 127/247 = 51.4% GA: 72/209 = 34.5% Dif: +16.9%

The article mentions that SHG are not counted in plus-minus. Anyone know when SHG were added?

I'd love to see that too, but what's it have to do with plus-minus?
