Sorry if this was discussed already, what do you think the PP lines will look like with Danny in the lineup?

I think they should put Richards back on the point with Kimmo on the first unit, just like last year (Danny, Gags and Knuble up front). 44 has been playing entire powerplays lately, it's not good. Make Coburn and Carle the second unit point men.

There's why I was asking. Does it make sense to have the NHL's leading goal scorer on the 2nd unit?

It just shows our depth and he works with Hartnell and Lupul. I don't think we really have numbered units, though. They each get equal time.

At even strength, there aren't really numbered lines on this team. It's 1A and 1B. But on the PP they're certainly numbered. It's only 2:00 long so the first unit is often out there for the majority of it. Not only that, but the Dmen are set on PP units. You want Richie and Timonen out there with the best line, or at least the one that works best with richie and Timonen.

Well you want them with Briere's group. They worked so well together last year.

This is from yesterday (detailed salary figures as it pertains to the cap) ...
Quote:

Just yesterday, Briere told reporters he could probably play tonight against Pittsburgh but wanted a couple more practices before he returned and was looking at one of the games in Florida later this week.

Problem is, the Flyers are having a hard time creating enough room for Briere on the roster salary-wise.

They may deny that, but it's the only thing that makes sense right now.

Holmgren has insisted the Flyers only need to clear "about 2 million" off their salary figure to get Briere back on the active roster, but that number is likely closer to $3 million, if not more.

Here's the breakdown of the cap hit of active Flyers' players, and then some math to prove Holmgren's numbers a bit faulty.

All salaries are in millions of dollars:

According to NHLnumbers.com, a very reliable salary cap Web site, despite a disclaimer protecting their information to the contrary, the Flyers had to count Beaulieu for 36 days on their cap, creating a cap hit of $96,000, and carried Ryan Parent on their roster for 80 days, creating a cap hit of $368,000.
Calling Irish Blues (hopefully he sees this)....

ASF has it wrong. I don't believe the Flyers are on the hook for anyone not currently on the roster. Let me see if I can't do some research and figure it out.

Since Briere was on LTIR, it's not his full cap hit that comes back on the cap. I know whatever would be left is on it, but I assume also the time he has spent on the roster during the course of the season.

Where ASF is wrong is that Ryan Parent was on LTIR before the season. He played preseason, but never spent a day on the roster. Parent has accounted for $0 on the cap. Since he's in the minors, the fact he was on LTIR to begin with is (almost?) irrelevant.

Nodl to the AHL, Giroux is ready for the Tampa Bay game, per Tim P.

Giroux return
Claude Giroux (concussion) was back on the ice for a full practice, including hits. He is expected to be in the lineup at Tampa Bay to play alongside Scottie Upshall and center Glen Metropolit.

Giroux was rather impressive in four games during the Flyers’ western road trip before being concussed by Anaheim’s Corey Perry. Perry nailed Giroux on the side of the face with the butt end of his stick, earning a four-game suspension.

Loose pucks
To make room for Giroux, the Flyers sent Andreas Nodl back to the Phantoms. … Biron will be in net Thursday in Tampa Bay and Niittymaki will play Friday at Florida.

Someone needs to tell that guy Sbisa getting loaned out to his junior team would clear exactly $0 dollars off the cap, and it would leave us with one more position to fill.

Solution, hold Briere out a few games, and trade Randy Jones.

PLEASE.

Wrong. Sbisa would come completely off the cap.

I love the "this isnt NHL 09/Videogames/etc" thing that gets thrown around here often.

(not saying it isnt true, just funny)

Upshall-Metropolit-Giroux

totally misuses Giroux, but it's a lot better than a third line of Nodl-Metro-Asham.

please keep Nodl down, he needs it...I think he'll be fine next year as a 3rd liner but he needs to stay down.

thats wrong

if Sbisa is sent back to juniors, the rest of his contract (that hasnt been paid out) doesnt count against the cap

Unless you're planning to play them with no defense, they tend to frown upon having so many players on the ice
