good lord. IF forsberg is healthy and effective that may be the best 3rd line of all time haha. I agree that he can be a distraction, but if we sign him with the mentality that he he wont be in the line up much anyway then it shouldnt be AS distracting.

Damn, I wish the man would just give it up and call it a career. He's done. Why is that so hard to grasp?
I actually thing Forsberg would make a strong 3rd line center. It limits his time and hopefully helps keep him on the ice, he is a great defensive player anyway and really gives you a deep lineup.

I would keep Gagne with Richards, but I would probably move Knuble down with Forsberg, or maybe Lupul.

Gagne Richards Lupul/Knuble
Hartnell Carter Giroux/Briere
Upshall Forsberg Knuble/Lupul
whatever.........

With that said, I dont want Forsberg back...

I gotta tell you guys, I'd much rather sign Forsberg for a playoff run and NOT have to giveup any picks or prospects than go the route that the Pens did last year and give up all they did for a rental player.

Forsberg may not be the player he used to be but he'd still improve our team and if we don't have to give up anything to get him then you'd be crazy to not want him, provided we don't have to make any drastic moves to get him in under the cap.

We don't have the cap space to make the kind of deal the Pens made last year (unless LTIR clears it up for us permanently)...so I wouldn't worry about it.

The Flyers likely had their trade deadline when they traded for Alberts. The only trade they can make now is basically a lateral move and making sure salaries work out.

I'd have loved to have seen the deadpan look on Holmgren's face when he quipped that.

I agree with that....If the alternative is trading Giroux, JVR, Parent....I rather just sign Forsberg

Danny Briere says he’s confident he will return to the Flyers’ lineup ready to play without further injury a month from now.

“I’m very excited about that,” Briere said. “It looks like that is going to be the way it should heal. The doctor was very positive yesterday. I’m excited to get some answers and find out exactly what was wrong with the picture.”

Briere held a conference call Friday afternoon and clarified that the surgical procedure performed by William Meyers at Hahnemann University Hospital on Thursday was twofold. First, it released a nerve entrapment in his abdominal wall. Second, an adductor release loosened the muscles connecting the inner thigh with the groin.
Quote:

Briere was asked whether Forsberg represented an insurance policy against his own return or additional help at center.

“I think [Forsberg] would be a great addition to any team,” Briere said. “To add a player like that would be great. From what I hear, I will be backing 4-5 weeks. I’m convinced I will be back and ready to play. If you can add a guy like Peter Forsberg, it would be a great addition to any hockey team.”

No way. First of all they'll want to limit his ice time to try and prevent injury and he also isn't likely to be in tip-top shape. I don't even think he should play center, that's a lot more skating responsibility and more stress on his foot.

Here is the problem with those lines:
It will NOT work salary wise.

I actually like those lines. Forsberg would be excellent on Carter's wing, I think. The third line is outrageous, and the fact that Upshall would be on the fourth line is amazing.

Possibly, I think you could make it work though, with no Asham or Jones.

I think some people just think Gags NEEDS to play with Forsberg. He can play with Carter and Lupul and make that line ridicules. Or what I think would be cool, would be a line of:

Gags-Richards-Forsberg

I think to acquire a guy like Forsberg and then not give Carter a great playmaker would be just insane.

That's basically the reason I'd be interested in a 100% Forsberg. If you acquire him I think you've got to stick one of Richards, Briere, or Forsberg with Carter

Sign Forsberg, put him on Carter's wing, move Lupul freeing up $$ for this year, and making a roster spot for JVR next year

The speeds that Carter and Forsberg play the game at are polar opposites. I'm not sure that would work.

Carter has played with both Hartnell and Knuble and assuming health I don't know that Forsberg is any slower than they are. You're right to some extent that in terms of a breakout it would be a little bit slower but I think once set up in the zone it should be fine.

i like those ideas..... has Lupul been about as disappointing as Carter has been surprising or what? i certainly dont like Lupul's contract extension, given his level of play this season, so far......
