Because Nodl sucks. He's been given way more opportunity than Kalinski or Powe and done absolutely nothing with it. He's even had time with Carter and did nothing. I love Powe and Kalinski's tanacity and they compliment a 4th line "energy" mentality very well, much more than Nodl.

I dont believe you were the one I was asking but anyway, I am glad you are able to decide after not even half of one season that Nodl sucks.....Guess Joe Thornton would have never been given a chance if you were coach.....

I dont necessarily disagree with your point, but putting a little skill with an energy line never hurts. Think Sami Kapanen, or what Buffalo usually does with their rookies when they first come into the league, especially when you are talking about guys that are probably not full time NHLers to begin with like Kalinski.

I didn't realize your thread was restricted to you and those of your choosing. If you don't want people commenting on your comments, then use the PM option. Now that the adolescnet bantering is behind us allow me to respond;

Metro is all the skill I need on our fourth line energy line. He has the best skate in hard, cut back...and then cut back again to the original direction on the team. Very rarely an apposing player can stay with that. He cycles well too.

My point is that I don't feel Nodl has any more skill than Powe or Kalinski. He's been given the opportunity to showcase some of it and one nice pass (luck in my opinion) accross the crease is all he has to show for it. Again, while playing with Carter for quite some time. Powe and Kalinski bring much more tangibles, a better work ethic and solidy to the "energy" aspects that you want from your fouth line.

Size is completely overrated. Let them use their speed to burn the much bigger and slower opponents. Besides, it's not as if these guys aren't tough. Just because they aren't 6'3, 200+ pounds, doesn't mean they can't take the rough stuff. I'm also of the school you can't hit what you can't catch.

I understand you thought -- but wouldnt they be pounded night after night? At some time the D will slow down and grind a line into nothing. Without someone with size this line (to me) would be minimalized with little effort 5 games into the season. Put some weight on the line Take out Giroux or Upshall and replace them with Hartnell, or Knuble, and then that may work.

At the end of the day what do we know -=- Stevens will do what he does, regardless of fan input

Perfectly said. I agree with 99.999999% of your posts.

I don't think Hartnell compliments Briere. Briere needs speed, which is why he did so well with Prospal and would do well if given the time with Gagne (that one just doesn't seem to be in the cards though). Danny may be tiny, but he stands up for himself and Upshall's a grinder. There's a ton of teams in this league that would love to have the "problem" of Danny Briere (possibly) centering their third line.

No, the main point is getting Giroux and Briere together to see what they can do together.

Thats actually quite awesome looking. I'm not even worried about the size of our 3rd line with that.

Next year

Gagne-Richards-Hartnell
JVR-Carter-Lupul
Upshall-Briere-Giroux
who cares who cares who cares
lol, actually something like this ???-Metro-Asham

I'd prob take Knuble for another year, however Lupul's contract BLOWS. At some point the cap will bite us. I hope it bites Jones, but even that might not clear enough space.

Coburn-Timonen
Carle-Vaananen
Sbisa-Parent

I belong to the school of Trade Jones to clear cap and Alberts is a take em or leave him UNLESS Vaananen wants too much money, in which case Alberts will do. He has his good games, whatever, 3rd pairing.

Yeah, Jones for sure. Unfortunately, I only I see a 2nd rounder coming our way for him.
Also, If we can rid ourselves of Briere as well, do it. I like his offense and am happy that he's here but we could really use his cash, especially if the cap is descreasing.

We have no bargaining what so ever here in regards to Jones. Teams know our situation and won't do anything to help bail us out. I think at this stage in the game, if it is indeed Jones that gets moved...were getting a 3rd for him.

Hartnell was fine with Briere and Propsal last year....it depends who the third person on that line is....and that is the first time I have ever heard speed and Prospal mentioned in the same sentence Briere doesnt really have a lot of speed per say, he is just very shifty...I agree though, I would be fine with having Upshall and Giroux with Briere. Let them dart around the offensive zone get the puck to Briere and he can burry it.

Never said my POST was restricted (the thread is not mine)....but when someone makes comments claiming that a player with only 26 pro games sucks cause he hasnt shown anything yet either has an uncanny ability to predict the future or is making a very ignorant comment......I will make my point again Joe Thornton had 7 points in his first season......Nodl is not Joe Thornton by any means, but 26 games is not "a chance" I am sure you are one of the ones that believes Downie was given a "chance" as well........

As for Nodl's "chance" with Carter, when you factor in that half of Carter's goals are special teams....how many wingers were really meshing with him at even strength until Hartnell and Lupul recently???

Point is, I told you I didnt disagree with you....I like what I have seen from Kalinski but he is in the same boat as Nodl at this point, 21 year old rookies with some college experience playing different roles. I rather have one you rather have the other.....so be it.

And I think Briere and Richards would have a problem with you comment on Metro being the best at that skating move.....

If you dont want to be called out on it, dont make ridiculously ignorant comments like "INSERT ROOKIE HERE with only 26 games in the NHL was given a chance and he sucks"

Thats fine...I am willing to dump him for cap space, he is not worth the money in my opinion and is very redundant on this team....Lupul on the other hand should have some value to him so I dont want to "dump" him to free up salary

Fair enough, we all know the hatred for Jones around these parts.

It doesn't matter who it is. Other GM's know the predicament were in and aren't going to do us any favours.

Jones
Alberts
Knuble
Lupul

None of them at this point in the game are are going to get us maximum return. Other GM's have us by the balls.

I actually really dont hate the guy anymore, I began to accept what he brought to this team, even with his shortcomings, but with Carle he is no longer needed and too expensive for a 3rd pairing.

I would agree with that, Carle makes Jones expendable.

I'm just talking on the trade front...

Take Ottawa for instance. Every other GM knows they want to move Vermette, it's no secret. Why hasn't he been moved??? Because teams are low-balling...Murray has no bargaining power what so ever. Holmgren is very much in the same position, if not worse. He needs to move salary to get a major piece (Danny Boy) back into the lineup.

I hear ya....I agree. Homer is just going to have to suck it up and either waive Jones to the minor like Gauthier last year, and hope no one picks him up, or just accept a mid level pick for him.

I dont understand why Ottawa wants to move Vermette, he is basically the only skill they have other than their top line. They need someone to play WITH Vermette on the 2nd line, not someone in place of him.

Pretty much. If things were different, I do agree in the right situation at the right time, Jones could 'possibly' land a 2nd.

I don't know what the hell is going on in Ottawa. Too much invested in three players...and no secondary scoring. I think the deal with Vermette is that they want to move him (+) to get a puck moving defenseman. I could be wrong though.

lol, an ignorant calling me an ignorant. Maybe you forgot what started this. Your comment said "why Kalinski over Nodl??? I rather add more skill."

To challenge me because I argue that is ignorant. What's worse is your audacity to call me ignorant.

I'm saying that Nodl has had way more opportunity than Kalinski (I threw in Powe as well) and has shown nothing. What is this "skill" that you are referring to? You must attend practices cause it sure as hell hasn't been during games. I then said that Kalinski and Powe (Again throwing Powes name in myself) have been given less opportunity but have been able to show more tangibles and quality than Nodl. Their work ethic and energy being perfect examples.

Defend your "nodl has skill" comment.

In the meantime how about you just keep things hockey. I replied to your original post and you replied "I wasn't speaking to you..." If you want one on one, join MSN cause how these boards work is everyone commenting on everyone else.

Metro has the best move on the team, really?

Is that before or after he curls behind the net and falls down all by himself?
