I can't really see Bogosian qualifying since he'd be considered an NHL regular. Unless they worked on the issue during his quick conditioning stint in the AHL.

Other players I see as possibilities for the top 10: Colin Wilson, Tyler Myers (THN puts alot into WJC performance), Zach Boychuk, Jacob Markstrom.

if backlund makes the top 10 id be very surprised. he had a very good wjc but until he came to kelowna hasn't shown anything special

Since THN relies heavily on WJC performances, does anyone else think Jacob Markstrom will likely be in the top 10?

I think him and Rask have to be two of the premier goaltending prospects right now, (Ahead of Bernier) and I think we could possibly see both in the top 10. I think Markstrom either barely cracks the top 10.

How about Patrick Wiercioch? Is he going to make the top 50? What a season he is having.

I was amazed that a team like Vancouver did not trade up to acquire a 2nd or 3rd to acquire Patrick Wiercoch. He has first round talent no doubt, and he has developed in our own backyard.

Having watched Patrick play for the NSWC I can tell you with great confidence that he is a sure-fire top-4 NHL defenseman, with a good chance at being a #1. He has all the tools to do so, with drive and determination to boot. Ottawa has an extremely good prospect on their hands.

Out in stores March 9th...subscribers probably still won't see it until the last week of February. I think I got mine on like the 28th or 29th last year.

Hey guys,

I dont understand where the idea that 'THN relies heavily on the WJC' comes from. You realize they get these rankings based off the reports and rankings from a number of scouts they talk to right?

while scouts obviously arent right 100% of the time, or even most of the time, I think they have a better, all-encompassing view of these prospects than some of these more hostile and for whatever reason, bitter posters on these message boards.

Not to sound mean, but c'mon folks.

This particular quote caught my attention...

Quote:
Rangers first-rounder Al Montoya was supposed to be the next great American-born stopper. He floundered in New York's system before being dealt to Phoenix. Once a top 50 mainstay, he's no longer on the Coyotes top 10 prospect list.
Damn, I thought he'd atleast be in the top 10 for Coyotes prospects. Talk about a fall from grace..

Thats pretty far off from the spring organizational rankings that HF put up just recently.

thats very interesting. Elliott is #35 on the future watch? Awesome! Interesting to see pickard above bernier, probably because of a weak year from bernier, but pavelec still keeps his high ranking? Markstrom is the 3rd best prospect in hockey? i cant wait to see the full list and explanations.

We'll see how it goes, but I'm thinking the top guys with that criteria are probably JVR, the other '08 top 10s, and Jonathan Bernier.

I wish it was Bernier. Unfortunately it looks like he isn't even close to being the top goaltender nevermind the top prospect.

Hopefully for Kings fans, the downfall of Jonathon Bernier doesnt match that of Maxime Bernier.

Bernier definitely had a slow start to the season and Quick outplayed him. He's been much better of late, but his hot streak might have happened after THN polled their anonymous scouts (circa mid-January) for The Future Watch.

Lombardi likes to take it slow with his prospects, so I wouldn't be too worried--at least to the point where you're using the term "downfall"--whether Bernier is #5 or #45 on a list like this.

Plus we never know who these anonymous scouts are. Maybe they're some of the same folks which collectively rank somebody like Erik Karlsson #71 on their Draft list? The Future Watch is a fun read, but it's not a clear predictor of what will happen.

Sabres
-----------
Jhonas Enroth G
Tyler Myers D
T.J. Butler D
Tim Kennedy F
Nathan Gerbe F

I'd go with this is Butler and Weber are considered graduated, both have played 30+ NHL games. Not a big fan of Gerbe myself but he'll probably make it in.
