My prediction.

I predicted a roster for 2 times.

Last year's prediction result was 16/22. Pretty good I would say.

So, for next year I predict:

Paajarvi-Lander-Klingberg
Tedenby-Josefson-Petersson
Ohman-Gustafsson-Johansson
Eriksson-Lundberg-Bjorklund
Silfverberg

Hedman
Karlsson
Rundblad
T.Erixon
Urbom
Bozic
Ekman-Larsson
Myllari(It's very possible that Hedman will be in NHL next year)

Markstrom
Ericsson

Damn you Garl! I just spent thinking about a 2010 team for one hour, then you show up posting almost the same team as I am . Well, there is a few differences on the complementary players and they are about a wash I'd say...

Realistically Sweden will be a bit stronger next year. The forwards will have about equal strenght. Important pieces like Backlund. Moller and J. Andersson will be gone and replaced with young guns that probably not yet will fill their shoes. But MSP, Tedenby, A.Petersson, Josefson and M. Johansson will all be returning and realistically better than this year. In goal Markstrom will return and should be even better. By now he should be very much ready for NHL. But the biggest difference to this years squad would be the defense. We have four very talented defensemen returning, who all should be better than this year. I think there is a big chance that Hedman will play in NHL already next year though. But we should be better even without him. Ekman-Larsson is a very good defenseman and Urbom & Myllari will provide the physical presence on the blueline we kind of missed this year. Then I made a try to compare this years players to where I think my picks for 2010 would be...

2009 2010

Markstrom < Markstrom
Owuya - J. Eriksson

Hedman < Hedman
E. Karlsson < E. Karlsson
Rundblad < Rundblad
T. Erixon < T. Erixon
Torp - Urbom
S. Erixon < Ekman-Larsson
V. Ekbom - Myllari

MSP < MSP
A. Petersson < A. Petersson
Tedenby < Tedenby
Josefson < Josefson
M. Johansson < M. Johansson
Backlund > Lander
Moller > W. Wallén
S. Hjalmarsson - Klingberg
Ullstrom - Ohman
A. Persson - M. Lundberg
C. Gustavsson - Branholm
Lasu - H. Eriksson
J. Andersson > A. Gustafsson

I would also like Urbom and Mylläri but I just can't see Mårts choose them.

Judging by Mårts comments in expressen ("vi måste bli mer brutala och hänsynslösa") I'm guessing he'll select a few more stronger guys next year. Thats good. However that sort of comments makes me wonder if he's the man that can mentally prepare this team to win over Canada in a final game. Sweden played well physically last night and didn't lose because of the physical play. Sweden lost because they lost their heads, let the canadians get under their skin and subsequentually played way under their potential.

So.. by all means bring in Urbom and Mylläri. But play more practice games on small ice against north american opposition and learn how to stick to your own gameplan instead of whining at the refs.

I like the look of this. I would add William Wallen up front and then maybe a Urbon or Lof on D. The other goalie would probabnly be Lehner.

I'm already very excited for next year's team, I think theres going to be a big improvement for us just simply because of the development of our younger guys from this team. Sure we will miss Moller, J. Andersson, Hjalmarsson, and Backlund but we'll be adding some pretty strong offensive players in Silfverberg, A. Gustafsson, Lander and Klingberg.

As for Hedman, that boy has a fire in his soul, I don't want to sound to poetic but when I looked saw him after the game was over and the guys were recieving their medals he looked like he was going to cry and yet looked like he had such a fire in him that he coulda played the Canadians again right then and there. Even if that giant is in the NHL next year I'm sure he would want some sort of out from his team for 3 weeks or so to play in the WJC, at least I really hope thats the case.

MSP - Josefson - Tedenby
Petersson - Lander - Klingberg
M. Johansson - A. Gustafsson - Silfverberg
H. Eriksson - Lundberg - Björklund

Hedman - Rundblad
Mylläri - Karlsson
Erixon - OEL

Markström

How do you guys rate the most talented 92's Ohman/Landeskog/Adam Larsson
chanses of making the team?

They sure are very talanted and we might even add Adam Pettersson and goalie Johan Gustafsson to this mix. Adam Larsson has huge potential IMO. The sky is the limit for this guy as he's got all the tools. He's big, strong, mean, good skater, passer and shoots hard. Very good 2-way defender. He's overplaying situations today and try to do to much which equals some turnovers, but you can say that about just every junior defenseman. In an normal year he would for sure make the Swedish team, but since the 90's and 91's are loaded with top defensemen I think he'll have to wait for 2011. But then he'll be really dominant IMO. I think that either Landeskog or Ohman has a fair chance of getting a spot as 2nd or 3rd line winger 2010 though. They both have the physical presence needed amongst forwards next year. But to do that they need to get some senior hockey experience before that. I think Ohman will crack MIF's roster while Landeskog will ha a lot harder to do that in DIF, therefore Ohman would be my pick. If Johan Gustafsson gets to play some senior hockey next season in Bofors or Farjestad I think he has a small chance of being a backup for Markstrom. But most likely that spot would go to J. Eriksson or Idoff. I love Adam Pettersson's allround skills but he won't make it until 2011.

I think Adam Larsson might have a chance if he steps up to the senior squad in Skellefteå (like Tim Erixon did this season). Adam Larsson is a much better prospect than Tim IMHO, so it shouldn't be impossible. However, Sweden hasn't had this many good d-men since... well, I can't really remember when that last happened. The competition is very tough and to be honest I don't think that any 92-born player will be on the team.

I think a player like Simon Bertilsson will be taken befor Mylläri and Urbom he is very talented also . Öhman and Adam pettersson possibly one of them will be there but i dont see them take manny young players especialy seens the 90 and the 91 squad seems to be a very good age group

Viklund - Gustafsson - Lundberg
Petersson

OEL - Bertilsson
Urbom - Karlsson

Hedman probably not avalible feels like we could have 2 teams in this tournament a lot of great players will be left home, i don`t think Lander will be good enough for the top lines, he might be next year but for now i would go with Kruger.

Is Rundblad even more highly touted then Erik Karlsson? I have done some reading and it seems that he is going to be a pretty good offensive defenceman and this year is his draft year. Plus he is much bigger then Karlsson as well.

Yeah, Hedman will likely not be available. He's going to be an NHL regular next year I think.

Sweden's team for 2010 WJC?

How would you assemble our 2010 WJC team? This is the early edition.

Tedenby-Josefson-Klingberg
MSP-Johansson-Peterson
Ohman/Berglund-Lander-Silfverberg
Wallén-??-Cehlin

Runblad-Hedman
Karlsson-Erixon
Larsson-OEL

Markstrom
Lehner

I realize that Hedman, Tedenby, Karlsson might be gone for North America though, which will make the team much worse.

If all of them could play, we could definitely had another shot at the gold.
