Few years ago Wings got played by a guy who faked his Kids Cancer to get free tickets.

Reading this, the only thing that screams out at me is "Some guy saw Zett give that kid his stick, and faked it, stole it, and it will be on Ebay in a few months"

I dont believe it was a security guy.

Thats a pretty ****** move on the guy who jacked the kids stick. What a way to ruin such a wonderful event and day. Props for Zetterberg and the Red Wings for making it up to the kid.

I dont know if you read right to the end, but in the article they kind of come to the conclusion that it wasn't security.

Sounds like the kid has his priorities straight - even though the Wings are going to try and right a wrong that they didn't make, it still won't be the same. Somebody needs to teach him how to deal with disappointment.

Aren't tickets to Wings games like 9 bucks each?

Stories like this make me sick, how can someone go so low as to steal a hockey stick away from a kid?

He also said he appreciates it. People are so quick to criticize. A signed stick from Zetterberg is great but how could it possibly be as good as having the stick from the Winter Classic handed to you by the player himself.

OT:

one of the lowest in the league, suprising for such a successful team.

Combination of an older arena and a good old owner = lower prices

Kid seems like a spoiled little brat to me. Come on, a 14 year old crying because he got his stick taken away from him, and then emailing the organization and the newspaper just screams attention *****.

Good point! A 14 yr old crying?

After reading the article this sounds awfully fishy! And frankly the kid is an idiot if it did happen. He was outside the stadium! I wouldn't have given the guy the stick. He would have had to arrest me.

I think this is made up

Zetterberg says he remembers giving a kid a stick after the game. So it might not be a bs story, sure sounds far fetched but i wouldn't 100% doubt that something like this could happen

I think the Chicago Tribune is reputable enough to look into this deeper. Very small chance this story was made up, the father was looking for publicity after he couldn't get the stick through an email.

Pretty cool thing for Zetterberg to do in the first place.

Maybe it's a conspiracy theory. Maybe the "security officer" who took the kid's stick wasn't a stranger, but his dad's brother. THAT way, they still have possession of the stick, AND by emailing the organization, they'll have possession of two Zetterberg stick.

That has to be it.
