Caps fan here

Why did LA let this guy go???

He's been EXTREMELY impressive so far in a couple games for the Caps. (especially tonight against the Flyers paired with Witt)

For a big guy he skates incredibly. He is not caught out of position and can make a solid play with the puck.

He hits everything in sight and stands up for teammates tenaciously.

Am I missing something here??

I'm sure his positive play will be short lived. The guy is just not an NHL defenseman.

I don't know how he became an "incredible" skater but the guy was one of the worst skaters on LA. (actually, he might have been the worst) He was frequently out of position. Oh, and he usually made terrible plays with the puck. Pretty much the antithesis of what you described him as.

His physical play is great and he is a decent fighter but he really brings little else to the table. I was a little dissapointed he was lost as he was all right as a fourth line winger but Brennan and co. can fill his shoes so it was no big deal.

give him a couple games

seriously, I liked Brad. I thought he was a good team player, always stuck up for a teammate. Like Lappy said, he almost lost an arm in the preseason. He missed like 38 or 40 games due to that. He had been playing on D when he came back and would be physical. However, he was never cut out for being a defenseman. Great guy though. Good luck to him in Washington. I hope he finds success there.
