I was at the open practice on the 2nd. He was participating in a full practice, hits and all. He was smashed into the glass by Crankshaft, right in front of me)

Wasn't it from when he and Wayne Primeau or someone were living together? My intuition is it's not PG.

I think I remember Drew saying once that it went all the back to his Cornell days. Not sure though.

How long does it take to get a player off IR and onto the ice? Basically can they activate him the day of a game or does it take a day or two to be official?

If I am not mistaken it is pretty much right away. Can't wait to get him back in the line up.

Yes, but you have to have the roster and cap space to do so.

Sharks currently have 23 players active, so at least one player would have to be assigned to Worcester (perhaps clearing waivers which takes 24 hours), put someone on the IR, and/or make a trade (reducing NHL roster by 1+).

He should have been back by now. He probably had a rehab setback.

He is a spark plug and gives the sharks consistency on the pk. He is one of the sharks best defensive faceoff men. His aggressive play provides additional offense when all the attention is on the top two lines. His return will inject energy into a tired lineup. The timing of his return will be if anything very well recieved as long he is 100%. I am certain he will not be activated unless he is at 100%. I ENJOY his style as he was one of our most durable and consistent players for 82 games last season as well all 13 playoff games ..

Just as an FYI, none of the "Worcester players" (for lack of a better term) currently on SJ's roster requires waivers at this point.

I suspect that Mitchell will play some games in Worcester before he's fully ready...but there are two issues with that. The first one is his salary counts against the cap while on injury rehab in Worcester. The second is there isn't a snowball's chance in Hell SJ will assign him to Worcester for games on 1/16 and 1/17, which are both in Norfolk and will most likely be two of the most physical games (read: Norfolk is a dirty team) in the near future.

If Mitchell is assigned to Worcester for rehab, he still has to have a NHL roster spot during that time (as well).

A player can come off of IR before another player clears waivers. The player being waived can be moved to Non-Roster status during the 24-hour waiver period, freeing up a spot on the Active Roster for the IR player.

Loan "Player B" to the Minors.

Only if a player is sent down on a Conditioning Loan (to avoid waivers).

If a player on IR is waiver exempt, he can be sent down immediately after being medically cleared (after being on IR for the minimum 7 days).

This is a moot point for Mitchell, since he is no longer exempt from waivers - his exemption expired after he played 80 games last season.

From Pollak's Blog:

"Along those lines, it looks as if C Torrey Mitchell might be ready to return to the lineup in about two weeks. That’s a preliminary estimate from both Mitchell and Coach Todd McLellan. More as things develop."

I can't wait for him to come back.

They should make that call... call C.Lemieux BEFORE the speedy gonzalez Mitchell comes back!
Glad his coming back. Brings so much speed and intelligent plays to our game.

Appears that the Sharks do not have to activate Mitchell from LTIR for short conditioning stint with Worcester.

I am really excited to see Mitchell play in the Toddfather's system. His speed should be showcased a little more. = awesome

How realistic would it be to see him back with in a week after the All Star Game?

It's possible he'll play the Tuesday before the Sharks break before the ASG, so that he should be back (definitely) after the AS break.
