ummm duh.

aren't the Caps selling out every home game? watch the Wiz vs Magic game tonight and the VC will be about half full, if that.

Once Gil comes back I bet you'll see a major boost in ticket sales though.

If they keep playing the way they do Gilbert won't help their attendence. They can't finish games.

It'd be interesting to see what the numbers for CSN are. Attendance usually goes hand-in-hand with winning. I'd bet that the Wizards have more people watching the games on T.V. then the Caps do.

Through 17 games, paid attendance to the Wizards has been 288,377 for an average of 16,963 per game. That is 84.1 percent capacity.

Through 20 games, paid attendance to the Capitals has been 358,878 for an average of 17,943 per game. That is 96.1 percent capacity.

That's paid attendence, but actual attendence is quite different, I think. The Wizards sold a lot of season tickets that aren't being used.

That is not something the teams can control whatsoever. If someone bought the ticket, it's sold and it's attendance.

If you're looking for actual attendance figures, keep waiting. No one releases those numbers... for the very good reason that once the seat is sold, the team no longer cares.

In the age of corporate block seat sales, especially in this town, and personal seat licenses, bought seats going unused is common and has to be counted. It's not like the club can re-sell that seat.

The person or organization is entitled to do with that seat what he/she/it wants, including letting it go unused.

Many companies buy a single year-round seat, covering Caps, Wizards, Mystics, Hoyas games and concerts/events.

That % is off for the Caps (I think, on the OB, it generally comes up that they've been using the old capacity rather than the new, it's now lower than it used to be). If those numbers are correct for the Caps then paid "attendance" is actually over 98%

Nice! Either way, it's a far cry from just a couple of years ago. Good stuff.

Saw some of the Wizards game last night vs Toronto on TV, the announced crowd was in the 13000 range but the upper bowl was almost all empty, could not have been more than 5000 fans in there.

I tend to think the free ticket giveaways count as attendence. I have gotten comp tickets with no price on them a few times this year. It kind of clouds the attendence picture. But hey who cares, the place is full with in towners.
