Question from a visitor

Will be in Dallas next month for business. How far is the arena from Sheraton Dallas Hotel. Will be on a time crunch and am figuring out the logistics.

HOping to catch the game against the Coyotes on the 11th.

It's about a mile and half from the hotel to the American Airlines Center.

You'll basically be going across the length of downtown. So it'll be easy to get a cab on the way if you don't feel like walking.

It they are both in downtown, I believe the Sheraton is on the northeast side and the AAC is on the southwest side. It should be a manageable walk if you please, but it will be a dead as you walk there. (not to many people in downtown especially at night)

That's one hell of a walk anytime of the day, much less after a game.

If you aren't renting a car, hail a cab at the Sheraton, but note there aren't many cabs in Dallas that aren't at the airport. There is, however, another hotel within very short walking distance of the AAC called the W (all but brand new, very nice and a chain of some kind, but I don't recall which hotel giant owns it) where you'll be able to get a cab.

Don't even think about walking, and it's not the distance. For the Dallas residents, he'd/she'd be walking from Central to I-35 at night.

ADDED Re: Cabs: The concierge at the Sheraton and at the W should be able to call a cab for you. There are enough cabs in the area for that. I just meant don't expect to be able to get one outside the AAC. The W hotel is across the street from 'Victory Plaza,' which is the plaza on the South side of the AAC and likely a place you might want to check out anyways (also a likely location for a cab drop off).

I second this, get a cab.

Does DART quit running buses before the game is over?

It's downhill from the Sheraton (on the east end), but uphill back!

http://www.dart.org/schedules/schedules.asp

Almost any bus running on Elm should get you to Lamar St where there appears to be a special events bus for the remaining few blocks to AAC.

I left Dallas before the rail was built, and have never ridden it, but it appears that there is a station across from the Sheraton (Pearl) and that the train also goes to the Lamar (West End) transfer point to AAC.
