Playoff Starved

I just heard Nedved's comments after the trade on the oilers site, and every second word he says is playoffs.

You had to know he was sick of losing in nyr, but I didn't realize how desperate he was for the post-season. This season is starting to look salvageable....

He knows he can be a big name again if helps us pull it off. Unfortunately I never watch any of his interviews about coming here yet. Did he sound happy?

I loved it when Radek came here, his had a huge smile, looked like he was twitching with excitement and it was nice to see.

I've been looking for that too. Nedved has been very diplomatic and is saying all of the right things about helping the team, making playoffs, etc, but at the same time he definitely is not showing the same kind of enthusiasm that D-Vo showed when he was traded.

When I first heard about the trade I thought that Lowe might have a good chance at resigning him to a more reasonable contract, but I'm not sure now. It might be difficult to convince Nedved (and just as imporantly his supermodel wife) that Edmonton is really the place to be.

Yeah, that's why I was kind of reassured he was happy to be here for the playoff reason, because he didn't look too happy to be coming here. But you can understand that after spending so many years with one team, and not leaving on a good note, it feels like kind of a failure on your part, like leving a project before the contractors show up.

Part of it could just be age - Nedved's older. Older guys tend to be a bit more steady. He's also been traded several times, I expect it gets a bit old, particularly when you have a family.

He seemed happy to be playing, that's for sure, and blocking shots is a good way to prove you want the team to succeed. He's a skilled forward, they don't get paid to block shots.

I guess we'll see what happens with his contract in the summer, I doubt Lowe's going to distract him with talks while they're in the middle of a playoff race.
