Thought for sure Backstrom would sneak in there. Pretty much knew Green would not be there again, mainly due to his injury (reducing the stats) and Komisarek getting a spot.
I think Backstrom was the least likely of the group given the way these teams are named with the NHL wanting representation from a lot of the League, esp. since they can get away with naming him to the youngstars game (again). I'm a fan of Komisarek's, but he's there because of Montreal hosting and voting; agree that takes away one of the few dmen slots. Same thing happened in the West with the Hawks and Ducks taking away slots from the Sharks and other deserving players.
Given the limited rosters, 30 teams, and the fan voting of the starters, there are so few spots, several players across the league were "snubbed." The strangest one to me is in the West though where the League people that name the reserves put Luongo on the roster instead of Nabokov given Luongo's injury, but I assume it will end up that Luongo doesn't go and Nabokov is named in his place. Looks like they named Luongo instead of one of the Sedin's.
Some other strange decisions for me are within team decisions esp. at the same position, while he has had a more than decent season, picking Modano over Eriksson for Dallas, going with the name.
It's not just the Caps that should have more than 1 player, oh well, as someone else stated, rest is good, especially with how banged up this team has been this season. One way to solve some of this would be for the League to expand the rosters a little bit, but regardless of the cut-off, some people are going to be left off.
edit: and yes, either watch it for what it is or take a weekend off from NHL hockey, not a big deal, except in terms of player bonuses....
Mike Green: 1st in points per game (.929, point leaders at .842), 2nd in goals (3 tied for first), 24th in assists, 9th in points, 10th in +/-. I can see why he's left off purely total stats wise, but the ppg number blows away the leading point getters.
Nick Backstrom: 11th in points, 5th in assists, 68th in goals and only +6. It's understandable with only 4 centers why he's not on the list.
No one should be surprised. They don't expand the rosters (edit: except for the 3rd goalie), so 42 spots and they placed a player from all 30 teams. Then factor in the fan voting for the starters resulting in only 4 teams being represented ...the only teams with more than 1 player...
Montreal 4 (all voted as starters including 2 of the 6 dmen spots)
Anaheim 3 (all voted as starters)
Chicago 3 (all voted as starters)
Pittsburgh 2 (all voted as starters)
San Jose 2

Folks, can I make an appeal (likely in vain, I know) to fellow Caps fans not to go going running off to the main board for the purpose of pissing and moaning and playing the victim card? Yeah, we'd like to have seen better representation. But these results are hardly surprising, and really, our guys could use the rest anyway.
Let's not try and be kings of the pity party. It just makes us look bad.
I kind of wish Ovi would boycott the red carpet event - go out partying the night before like Nicky did and blow off most of the non hockey stuff. Asking the players over and over who made their suit was stupid. And the "skills" competition absolutely needs to be revamped. Last years was so bizarre and boring I cant even remember what the events were. IIRC, they had a four second sprint to see who was the fastest skater. At least they had Alyssa Milano there last year.
