Is Lapierre 'reviled around the league'?

McGuire was on this last night.

We've all seen Lapierre run his mouth and it's obvious he gets under players skins, but he doesn't strike me as someone who fits the mold of a Ruutu or A***y, someone who is detested league wide and even by some of his teammates.

To me he seems like a guy who fits a profile fairly consistent to at least one guy on each team across the league, a competent grinder who hits, talks first and talks a lot, no real rep for dirtiness, doesn't look for the cheap shots, and he will back it up if challenged.

It's not the first time they say it. Gord Miller has mentioned it in a few Habs games. Lapierre is a hated player across the league and in a good way.

He does the damage on the ice and not off the ice, he's a professional.

I don't think he's hated like Ruutu is but I bet a lot of people get annoyed by his grin and talking.

He used to be more hated. But he stopped playing the pest when the Montreal press called him out on it saying "he shouldn't start fires if he's not willing to drop them once in a while". He's still a big mouth but far less vicious/wanting to start *****.

He's not dirty... which separates him from the other A-holes... for now...

He's just a big talker with not a lot of follow threw... and he wears a visor, which surely pisses off some of them wessies...

He plays a perfect role and pisses off allot of players around the league,as long as he doesn't become a nut like Avery, I will be very happy

Agreed. For a while he toned down his pest act but it seems to be coming back now, which pleases me. We need a guy like that.

I do think McGuire and Miller were overstating his "hatedness" last night though. When you think of hated guys around the league you think of Ruutu, Cooke, Hollweg, Avery (well, when he was in the league)...Lapierre's not on that level yet IMO. But then McGuire and Miller probably know a lot more about how the players feel than I do.

I still think its his smile. Most of those players are ugly. How can you hate Tootoo at the end of the day? He's so chubby! Lapierre on the other hand is the kind of guy you see at a bar dancing with some chick he might have slipped a ruphie on, and gives you that **** grin like, "Yeah, I'm ****ing it, and you're not". You hate him sooo much because he's so ******* arrogant, but you can't deny, boy's got game.

So True!

And that's a big part of why Ribeiro was hated too.

I hope Max return to being an agitator, though.

Ribiero was ugly, cheap and an ******* in real life. Lapierre might just be like during the game. He might be fun to hang out with. Then again, I think hanging out with Sean Avery would be fun. I'd be his wingman, aaaaanyday.

I thought I was alone man.

Too much bashing on this board.

If you like this player you gotta hate the other.

I'm guessing Lapierre is reviled by Crosby, and that's more than enough for Pierre.

There's probably about a dozen teams who have never heard of him. I like him though, esp. when he plays well.

I kind of doubt that...

We might have found our shutdown center. He is good on faceoffs, can play the PK well. Give him good two way wingers and the habs have a dominant shutdown line.

I really want to see him play with Higgins when he comes back!

Edit : I even remember the TSN announcers saying that Tom Renny was trying to put the Gomez line away form the Lapierre line! If this is indeed true, well it says a lot about how far Max has come since his first NHL game, when we though he would only be a pest, since his defensive game was really lacking.

Lapierre is a great player on our team. Every team needs a pest.

I remember that last year Julien said that the word is passing around the league that Lapierre is a big mouth who choses his fight. O'rely?

I must say that Lapeirre has really progressed this season. I have been one who wanted him converted to the wing but he clearly is doing fine at center. Hopefully this doesn't kill Chipchura's chance to make this team full time this season as i think he is needed but there may just not be any room for him after everyone is healthy.

one thing is for sure is that we have tons of depth up front. I fear that at the deadline we will lose some of it.

Pretty much what I think, I don't see him as being "hater" like Claude Lemieux but he ain't loved that is for sure.
