The injury took place 13 days before game 1 of round two. The recovery time listed in that article is anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks so it is possible that he's not that far off from being 100%.

Either way it'll slow him down for sure but than again it's not like he had speed to burn in the first place. Sundin will have his impact on the PP and if he can produce anything 5 on 5 then consider it a bonus.

I really hope Salo isn't out for any extended amount of time... he's our most valuable 2-way defensemen and his loss would be huge to our playoff drive.

Centre Ryan Johnson was hurt when he blocked a shot in the second period and appeared to favour his right hand. Johnson missed 20 games this season with a broken index finger on the same hand. While Johnson didnít miss a shift, he was in obvious pain. Demitra was also briefly attended to after he tried to deliver a hit to Chicago defenceman Brian Campbell along the end boards.Demitra seemed to injure his shoulder on the play.
Someone on CDC mentioned that Ryan Johnson would get x-rays done tomorrow (source team1040) I missed that, so hopefully someone here can tell me if they heard it too.

If Johnson is out for any period of time that is going to be a massive blow to our PK. There isn't a replacement we have that can match his intensity level and ability to block shots.

Salo is a HUGE key for the Canucks and losing him will be really bad. Anyone hear any updates yet? Definitely did not look good, I was hoping it would be a Ribeiro type pinched nerve or something

I don't think Salo's injury is all that series, I bet he could have returned last night but didn't to be careful.

That's a huge loss, replacing him with Vaananen takes so much offensive dynamism out of the lineup, as well as some more speed off the backend.

And they're saying lower body injury, not the shoulder. Not good at all.

From the link above:

VANCOUVER -- The Canucks travelled to Chicago on Sunday without defenceman Sami Salo, who remained in Vancouver for treatment of an unspecified lower body injury.
So it is indeed a groin injury. Dont like the fact that they're keeping him here...

I think it leads to more harm than good when Vin-yo plays him < 8 minutes. It means pairings are being mixed and matched, makes it tougher on the top 5 than it needs to be.

Such horrible news. Time for the rest of the core to step up and try to fill in.

Any updates on Johnson's X-rays? I know he went on the trip to Chicago but nothing was said if the X-rays came back negative or not. There was an article on either the Sun or Province's website saying his fingers were stretched straight (but likely because of the original fracture/break)

Yep, Luongo especially. He really needs to get back to his solid play from the St.Louis series.

Yeah it looks like he lost the groove that he was in and honestly we can't be suprised either. This is a guy that gets in a groove and then gets on a roll. If he doesn't continue playing then he has to start all over again and find that groove.

If he finds that groove then the Hawks are in trouble. But if he doesn't find that groove then Vancouver could easily be in trouble.

Most of us said this would be a 6 or 7 game series and it looks like it'll be that way for sure.

Think about it this way. If it comes down to game 7 on home ice it's tough to not like the Canucks chances unless the injury bug continues to bite them.

I wouldn't be suprised if every semi final series goes at least 6 games.

I would love to hear an update on Johnson. I expect him to play either way but it would be good to hear if the X-rays came back negative. Like Cherry said, he really does need some extra protection on that right hand - maybe he can borrow LaBarbera's blocker for the PK.

If the Canucks are a good, deep team, they will overcome their bad play and improve as the series goes on. If an injury to Salo throws this team that far out of wack, then they were simply pretenders.

A deep defense simply doesn't crumble due to the loss of one player, and to be honest, pretty much the whole team from the goalie on out looked extremely pedestrian.

They made a believer out of me this season, and I see no reason to bail on that because they've been playing poorly the last two games.

I think they've earned that.

They've got to start dictating the play, and everyone (well, other than Johnson), have to step it up.

Vaananen is good enough to play solid minutes and if the team plays a solid, hard skating game there shouldn't be a problem with him in the roster.

It appears someone reads too many forums.

Jesus, this is our first loss of the playoffs, and all of a sudden we're doubtful we can win at all?
