Colby Armstrong back to Pitt?

The Penguins are seriously under-performing and need a change. Although Armstrong is not exactly a game changer on the ice, perhaps the GM really underestimated his steady, positive presence in the locker room.

I'm sure Atlanta isn't actively trying to dump him, but I don't think he's been quite as valuable to them as he was on the Penguins. On Atlanta, he's just been the relatively average third line grinder as you would expect on paper.

Do Penguins fans think it's possible for Shero to overpay a bit to bring back Armstrong?

For the love of God, no. We need wingers that can score, not tell jokes.

There's a reason for that...because that's all he is.

Maybe the two aren't mutually exclusive. I'm not saying that the Pens should trade for him with the expectations of him playing on the top line.

Armstrong brings nothing to the ice that Dupuis, Kennedy, Wallace, Cooke, etc don't already bring.

If they want someone from ATL, why not Kozlov?

He does have more goals than all of them, playing with far worse centers.

The Thrashers are not interested in moving Army, they need more guys like him.

Then include one of them in a deal or trade one of them somewhere else. As I said in the OP, it's not about what he brings to the ice, but he can play the roles of the guys you mentioned while adding the unique intangibles off the ice.

They did fine without his intangibles during the playoffs. They've hit a rough patch, doesn't mean they need the locker room jester back.

The Thrashers will do everything they can to keep him for 3-4 years. Now i'm not quite sure how arbitration works, but I suspect that's what will happen this year and then he'll go to FA. You guys could sign him there.

This thread misses the real reason behind Pittsburgh's slump - the Daulton Leveille-sized hole in their prospect pool.

This is NOT speculation...

if colby were to come back, it would be via free agency. It wouldn'tsurprise me being that Errey and Steigerwald bring it up (his contract status) every time we play the thrashers. I would rather have Colby than Satan, Feds, and Dupuis. At least he could get everyone fired up. The pens need a character guy AND a winger for Sid.

Errey and Steigy are also idiots and I wouldnt take much of what they say seriously. However I wouldnt be surprised if Colby tried to go back to the Pens via free agency given the chance. Pens are more in need of some veteran leadership, hence I think Robert's loss hurt them more in that then on the ice. The only other thing Armstrong brings over the guys you mentioned are the occasional big hit jokes, and neither is going to help this team much right now.

That's great.

I'd take Army back, but it'll probably happen once his a UFA...which I've heard a lot of different things about. Is he a UFA this summer or an RFA?

RFA arbitration eligible

We made it to the finals last year without him, so no, we're not lacking "locker room guys", but instead talent. We only have one decent pp and it's been god awful of late. That and we really don't have any top-6 caliber wingers.

It is a smallish, but fast, hole to be sure
